“This is good, but top 3 Tones?”
Yeah. KNY>WP>this easily. Shouldn’t be a shocker tho cuz SNW was 3rd favorite before this and I just moved it to 4. It’s like SNW but better imo

Watch their interview with Apple Music from about a month ago. Chino talks about being sober for this album and actually having fun writing it. Steph seems to be in good spirits for the first time in a while too since he found out he's type 2 diabetic. I think it comes through in the music.

I’m listening to ASMR of you eating my ass

twiabp may have released a better deftones album this week than deftones did
Need to check that out, love their first two albums. But tbh I haven’t even listened to their 3rd or 4th albums yet (I hear the 4th is great) so I need to catch up.

I know even in a really consistent discog something has to be last, but it seems like most people actively dislike Gore, which I don’t fucking get tbh. It has some of their worst and most forgettable songs (xenon and pittura infamente, geometric headdress is kinda meh), but phantom bride, hearts/wires and l/mile are fucking great, then acid hologram, prayers/triangles, doomed user, gore and rubicon are all solid.
The production is muddy but I still think it’s a solid album that I liked from the beginning, but actually grew on me as well
To each their own obviously. Just surprised I’m in such a minority in liking it (though there’s no doubt it’s amongst their 3 weakest albums).

Album is solid. But it's below DE, KNY, and Ohms as far as albums post-Chi go.
I'm disappointed there isn't much of the downtuned Meshuggah-inspired riffs from Stef on this album. I actually dug the sound of his tuning on Ohms a lot more. Especially experimenting with the 9-string on Spell. I was hoping for more of that on here.
I do like that Frank got to do a lot fo work on this, though. It shines in the production. He's always been the most under-appreciated part of the band. So him getting to have his contributions sit higher in this mix compared to other albums was nice.
Overall, it's better than Gore. But I still think a bit of a step backward from Ohms.
I like the work they've done with Nick. But I'm one of the fans that still prefers the massive production style that Terry Date does with these guys. If they do make another album together I hope they will go with him again.

I honestly think it's their best since diamond eyes but that could be recency bias

Definitely best since koi. Thing is kny has rosemary, tempest, leathers and entombed, all some of Deftones best songs. Higher highs than this imo, but this is probably more consistent.

I still will say to this day that Ohms is probably the best produced Deftones record. Terry made that record sound so fucking perfect… but I think Nick’s style works much better for the songs here. And really it doesn’t sound much like DE or KNY. The vocals sound much lower in the mix and I actually really love that. I think it sounds perfectly fine for what it is.
Now if Eros ever does come out (I don’t think it will) I hope Terry is behind the boards on that.

“ Whole album is phoned in.”
I still like it but Ohms feels like more they were on autopilot far more, this record sounds incredibly inspired to me.
I’m not kidding I literally posted about how little of a shit I give about Chino’s lyricism at this point like last week but then he went and penned his best work since SNW at least. His lyrics are great here. None of the writing really comes across as “phoned in” to me

shit's just good, haven't felt this good about a Deftones release since SNW.
I actually wanna go see them perform this live.

Definitely agree it sounds like they were very inspired while making this. And yeah I heard that apple music interview as well, chino was really reinvigorated by sobriety and writing an album clear headed.

Hell yeah, they sound great. And infinite source and milk of the Madonna live! Hopefully that’s a sign those soon be on the setlist going forward (my mind and milk obviously will be, but hopefully this means infinite source will be a staple as well).

This def feels like the most Deftones-sounding album in a while. Def reminds me a lot of classic ‘tones.

Don’t hear this at all. Would def apply that to Oblivion and some of their other tracks, but not locked club
