"Infinite Granite is bad Slowdive worship"

I've never been so offended by a Dedes take

I'm not sure I get all the hate for Infinite Granite, it does well what it's trying to do. I personally love that album.

I have a good time with Infinite Granite, but I do agree with its criticisms.

It is a pretty decent attempt at the genre, but it really feels like it's more for superfans who just want to experience the band sprinting out of their comfort zone.

"Heathen" here does pretty much everything that album tried to do but better and more elegantly integrated into their sound. If they made a clean(er) album and were willing to open up their sound a bit more like "Incidental II" then I think they could do something really cool.

ya odal is spot on, Infinite Granite has a lot of good ideas but they’re stretched way too thin. Nice try but no thanks

Heathen is literally better than that entire record.

Shellstar, In Blur, and Great Mass is such a good run of songs tho

I really only like Great Mass of Color and Mombasa tbh, rest of the album can kick rocks

Those are all fair points. It is a great spin on vinyl though.

I also like Alcest's "Shelter" more than most other Alcest albums, so maybe I'm a bit skewed towards the black sheep albums these bands are putting out lol.

Odal definitely hit the nail on the head: I still say IG's a great album, but I'm willing to admit it does benefit from being ensconced in the fandom.

Though I wouldn't say Heathen is the final reach of that shoegaze sound they were after, I'd argue it's just a different take on it.

yeah, I can agree with most of this. Okay, maybe omit the words “pretty decent” and it works

I guess I’m the only one who thinks Lament for Wasps is also one of the best songs on IG.

I never got into any of them. Roads had pleasant sticker shock value. This however has grabbed me by the balls and ain’t letting go.

I'm more of a New Bermuda fan myself, never really fully got into Sunbather. This album is such a perfect blend of New Bermuda and Infinite Granite that I just can't quit it.
