You hate Sentry?! It's between that one and "Domino" as to which one is my favorite.

Yeah, Sentry has always sounded like a Walmart version of Coheed to me. I don't know what it is but Descension is just watered down, generic Coheed and a huge fall off from Ascension for me. I never listen to that album save for Number City and Iron Fist.

I agree, though The Hard Sell and Gravity's Union are some of my fave Coheed songs.

"I never listen to that album save for Number City and Iron Fist." Those are literally the two songs that, unless I'm giving it a full spin, will always skip haha

Crazy how different our taste is on Coheed! Lol.

I also hate The Hard Sell and it was the first song I ever heard by Coheed that made me say "what the fuck is this?" Hearing that and Sentry gave me a bad feeling about what Descension would be like.

Number City is such a jam though! They played it as an encore song during the IKSSE:3 Neverender tour and it slapped live.

So much for not buying the album again for the new tracks...I caved and bought the Purple Optic Distortion vinyl...it's stunning.

With the 4 extra tracks (which have all grown on me) this really is an awesome Coheed record.

Claudio sounds inspired, there's some great riffier moments and the Coheed variety is very much present. I'm not sure if I prefer it to The Afterman as a whole (yet), but it's a perfect companion to that double album either way.

Those 3 records make a more enjoyable play through than the 3 Vaxis releases (Vaxis I is not palatable at all, and a slog to get through).

Good album, but I hate that the novelty is wearing off for me. I want them to surprise me. Open up an album with a cinematic Sci fi technical prog metal instrumental. Make the songs seamlessly flow into one another like one continuous prog epic, breaking off from familiar song structures. Their albums have become very predictable since Vaxis in my opinion. If I could imagine the perfect Coheed album, it would be The Willing Well's for an hour straight. If they give me that, I'll give them a 5 straight up

I think that's an unrealistic expectation to have. At this point, they've been doing this for twenty years. With few exceptions, they've solidified a song structure they write with and a sound. I would agree that they've become more predictable since Vaxis, but I don't think that's going to change.

As a big fan, this unfortunately is not as good as Sputnik made it out to be.

The new Astronoid album is much better. They are doing Coheed better than Coheed.

Go listen to that instead. :]

Haven't heard Astronoid but it seems interesting.

This... well, it's basically streamlined pop-Coheed, though somehow also their heaviest material since The Afterman. And let's not forget the reggae version of Goodbye, Sunshine.

I reviewed that album of theirs from 2019 on here with a 1.5/5 review... and tbh I prob stand by that. Haven't heard anything since, but man that album sucked.

This, on the other hand, is just good fun. Still surprised Johnny thought it was so mid, it's clearly a massive step up from what they've been doing for the past decade or so. Still has its weak spots but so does every Coheed album. Could prob make the argument that there's no "holy shit" track like Domino, but the good songs are still relatively high tier for their standards.

Yeah, I wouldn't compare Astronoid to Coheed at all. Weird take.

I would say "The Flood" is on par with a "Domino" track. Definitely their best track since "Gravity's Union"

The Flood is great, but I think this album series peaked with Toys and Unheavenly Creatures. However dull Vaxis I is, I see them as all-career higlights.

If you can't hear any resemblance with Coheed on this last album i don't know what to tell you.

I mean, just listen to the breakdown at 1:57 on the second song "Love Weapon" and tellme that couldnt be a Coheed song.

Stand by my words. Astronoid is contender for album of the year imo.

They nailed the glam aesthetic with that one imo, but to each their own.

My love towards these guys demands i give this a bunch more listens to see if it sinks in.

I guess the last two albums just put me on the backfoot with these guys.

Feel like the only HOLY SHIT song for me right now is Searching for Tomorrow.

Its nice to see them try something much heavier as well.

Right now i just feel like there are too many low tempo songs on the album for my liking.

Lets see. Getting old as well so i might eventually relate to the lyrics.

Though i never did listen to Coheed for the lyrics.
