I don’t mind Cry Baby other than the annoying inserted filler talking section before the end. Leave that shit out, then song would be better

I like Cry Baby too.
It's all crazy! It's all perfect! It's all a dream come true.

When i listened to this today the sample on Secret History reminded me of 22 Over Soon by Bon Iver lol

cry baby is a weird song where its a song that i feel like only works as a closer, but doesnt work as a closer to this specific album lol. feel like i'd like it more as a smidley song maybe. hall of frozen heads is a really hard act to follow up though, i really think they should have just made that the closer

I like HOFH as the penultimate track. It would have made a great closer for sure, but there's something about Cry Baby that feels like a coming back to earth moment. Very vulnerable. It's not a track I'd often seek out for a standalone listen, but it's the ideal closer here.

I do think Cry Baby leaves a bit to be desired musically, although the “Everything sucks and nothing matters, but you make it all worth living” is a pretty excellent sentiment to end on for this album and I’m not sure Id change that

nahh Cry Baby is a very nice closer. Probably their weakest of the 5 but I genuinely think the lyrical sentiment carries it to fulfilling the role perfectly

Cry Baby is good but it would be way way better if it were shortened and just added to HOFH as a coda imho

I really thought State Faults had aoty on lock then my favorite emo boys come thru with this fucking beautiful mess of a record
Who would’ve thought that ten years ago the dorky midwestern kids that made The Albatross would’ve gone on to make this

hm. Hell 99 speaks to me in a very particular way, but I feel like the first two tracks on here wrote a check the rest of the record couldn't cash. crept dangerously close to making me feel like I got tricked into listening to The Monogenre at a few points.

Agree. For me, this falls off after Barking. Still enjoyable overall though, and I prefer it to their previous record

idk how this possibly falls off after Barking when you still have Gratitude and Hall of Frozen Heads, but we all have our opinions.

Barking is the least challenging track here, but it's still pretty good. Back half of the record never lets up. The entire album is crazy aggressive and nihilistic, not sure what more anyone could want from Foxing tbh unless you're a Dealer disciple and just want more glowing acoustics (I'd certainly take more of that too, but definitely not in place of this).

Or just want more albatross.
I read somewhere that Eric is so fucking sick of people saying they miss “the old foxing”
There’s a million fucking Midwest emo bands to listen to, Conor literally says “so throw away the albatross” on Beacons… how many more hints to these dummies need?

albatross is hella overrated yeah. super mixed bag
i dont really think this being their most challenging necessarily makes it their best. if anything it kinda highlights that nearer my god got the right balance between the two sides, although obv id rather them be doing this than draw down the moon (altho barking is basically the good version of what that album failed to do so maybe theyd be better at that now). this definitely rips on its own terms enough that it doesnt have to top it, but itll never surpass that album for me
