"Gore of Being rips wtf lol" Hey man, more power to ya for liking it. Probably doesn't help I'm getting pretty tired of that riff pattern appearing in so many metalcore songs nowadays.

"Progressive" metalcore is now boiled down to just one overdone boring uninspired riff idea agreed

Which riff pattern, there's like 20 in that song

First lick of the opening riff when it descends upward to the highest note. It's used constantly in modern metalcore. Dayseeker - Crooked Soul has it, and a bunch of other songs too.

I mean, we like what we like but you can’t listen to newer Erra and say it’s not simpler and more “stock” writing than what they did on their earlier material.
You can also argue Drift is more by the numbers mxc writing, but to me it’s just done absolutely exceptionally well, especially in the clean vocal department + leads. So that’s why that one is special to me

Gore of Being is a perfect example. I think it’s also very standard fare, but I adore that main riff so I like it. I don’t bat an eye at anyone who doesn’t though, that’s a fair criticism

I think it's trivializing calling anything from the new singles stock, especially the guitar compositions, it's worlds more complex than cure and the originality behind it lies in the nuance in the fills, the harmonics, the little moments that whiz right past you, I hear a lot of their busier and more technical work of old in the new singles

Not in further Eden lol
But echo sonata is a perfect blend of Drift and s/t

Do you listen to Invent Animate? The main riff in Gore of Being is literally aping their sound from all of their albums. That’s what we’re saying like either they or someone else has done what they’re doing many times over. If you like that that’s fine, I do really like that sound so I like Gore. But if others don’t that surprises me 0
I’m actually not the type to not dig something simply because it’s been done before, especially if it’s done well, which is why I like all 3 singles to varying degrees. But sans Echo Sonata the other two are definitely tame and more average than things they’ve done prior on many albums in every aspect. Composition, riff complexity, originality, you name it

Nash, THIS new song is the one that "appeals to the masses" as you put it before, if you ask me I do reckon

Ah, I see what they're doing. They're doing the "octane-101" strat. Make 9 radiocore songs, and add 3 heavier songs so the riff-heads can't say anything about them selling out. Spiritbox has done this since their come up. Bad Omens too, with Artificial Suicide on TDOPOM. It's the most manipulative octane strat in the book.

Ok I actually like the latest single. Finally a straight heavy song from them
JT is so fucking monotone tho holy shit
And I’m so sick of this modern metalcore production where the kick drum is like 80% louder than everything else

I agree this is another one in the bucket of mass appeal lol. I would expect nothing less than 75% to hate it. It is definitely Spiritbox af. I kinda love it 😂
