the one thats like 'so make the friendship bracelets take the moment and taste it' and 'everybody is a sexy baby' are catchy. she did kind of drop the ball songwriting wise here. I think she was more focused on making this fucking massive iconic tour she's in the middle of

If it weren’t for Tik Tok I wouldn’t remember any of these tracks

shouldnt take a rocket scientist to find out taylor has the PLAINEST most milquetoast female voice in all of pop. even adele has more soul.
i mean tbh a vessel feature would be an unironic improvement but bon iver carried that folklore album hard too

adele has a ton of soul, tswift isn't even on the same planet obviously. swift's range is so bad if shes not so breathy with her voice

I never thought Taylor had a phenomenal voice; she's just a phenomenal songwriter and lyricist.

Vessel got soul like a sneaker on his throat as he sings that turgid crap. Soulless as fuck

Sleep token bleeding into other threads now

your opinion on vessel is irrelevant here, swift still sounds super breathy and plain i don't like it. she hasn't sounded proper emotional since Fearless, ever since Speak Now she's lost that.

“sometimes I feel like everybody is a sexy baby”
phenomenal lyricist

Emotion sounds different to different people, maybe, it can be a slippery slope. But saying there’s no emotion is ridiculous. Emotion can also be faked and melodies be what they be and performances will be what they be, so in the nuances of what constitutes “emotion” in music, there is no emotion in music. The emotion is in you. It can’t give it to You. You feel there’s emotion because it joggles your jewels or it doesn’t. Saying Swift has no emotion in her delivery because it doesn’t resonate with you emotionally, does not take emotion from her. She’s not a robot. How could you possibly know if there’s emotion in her voice?

there is no emotion in music because melodies and performances be what they be [2] that’s a great point

"Saying Swift has no emotion in her delivery because it doesn’t resonate with you emotionally, does not take emotion from her. She’s not a robot. How could you possibly know if there’s emotion in her voice?"
The reason it doesn't resonate is it sounds way more breathy and "just hitting the notes and nothing else" so to say. I don't feel the emotion because she sounds like, plain. there's not much power, strength, her voice is too "normal" and...soft. Her vocals sound more natural (aka: not mired in autotune... which can be used well, see: Kanye West) than say.. Owl City though, so it's not completely void. Owl City just sounds like an AI-generated Ben Gibbard.
Swift nowadays (ESPECIALLY on Folklore) is like the type of singer I'd hear in one of those kitschy indie pop acts that would play on a radio in Starbucks. Soft, breathy, plain. For what she is it's not the worst but it's annoying seeing Swifties overhype her as the best thing ever.
|
| |
Okay, but that doesn’t make her voice emotionless. Your specific emotions, as I’m sure you’re aware, are based on you and a bunch of other specificities. Her voice and delivery not making YOU emotional does nothing to take from anybody else feeling emotion from her voice. We don’t all feel emotions the same way.

The annoying part for me is seeing her rabid fans flock to her... I guess that's how people who dislike Sleep Token feel about all the worship stuff so it's sort of the same shit then.
But like, I can listen to an entire Swift album and feel next to nothing, but not long ago I was on a Fleetwood Mac kick and I heard the "Silver Springs" live performance, and... Stevie Nicks was giving it her all, her voice just OOZED passion, oozed soul, and I wish I heard that sound and feel out of Swift's many breakup songs because I feel like I'd like her music way more if that was the way she sounded.
Or maybe not because it often comes off like she trend hops. On Lover she was ripping off Lorde ("You Need to Calm Down" is just a repackaged Lorde song) and then suddenly she gets re-acclaimed off indie pop kitsch.

Idk venin I think ur maybe kind of overlooking the basic fact that different people um emote differently
But also I do feel u in that swift (to my ears yeah yeah) has generally sounded very controlled and put-together esp since 1989, but hey maybe part of her like aspirational appeal or whatever is that she can sing about personal emotional things without constantly sounding like she's falling the fuck apart?

I’m posting here because there’s no reviews for any Voidsphere albums, golly those Voidsphere folks whoever they are sure make some good cosmic black metal
Do y’all think Taylor will ever give a feature to the Prava Kollektiv?
|
| |
No but she will get one of the king gizzard guys to do bad trems on a deafheaven pastiche at some point and we will all be So Normal about it
