people don’t go for muddy production. it’s a product of inexperience or laziness, often disguised as an artistic choice

If my mix was muddy I would simply put a high pass filter and mid/side EQing on my tracks.

@colton deathconsciousness is way muddier than this and everybody loves that album. not saying thats a bad thing, but its a prime example of conventionally "bad" production enhancing the overall atmosphere of a project

I'm not generally that tuned into production quality/it's unlikely to significantly decrease my enjoyment of good compositions but this album sounds lovely as far as I'm concerned. Maybe I'm just a ho for reverb though.

colton listens to precisely zero lofi projects and cannot stomach anything that isn't a crisply rendered verse followed by an expansively layered chorus, do not waste your words here

the vocals on your album sound good and the guitarist has a melodic style that stands well on its own and doesn’t need a ton of layering added to it, which helps it from becoming too muddy. I also didn’t say that muddy is always bad, I just don’t think artists actually set out to make their music sound like that. it usually just happens naturally when you throw a track together and sometimes people just leave it like that cause it works well enough

why is thoroughfare 10 min tho

I mean it’s really only a 7 minute song, same as several others here, just with an extended coda (a section which grows on me every listen), and regardless I feel like a song detailing a cross-country road-trip kinda deserves to sprawl a bit. The core part of the song is as well-paced as anything here.

i love the ending of thoroughfare so much. i almost imagine it as an ending credits scene to the first part of the album. this might be kinda cringe, but i picture ethel and isaiah and some other drifters sitting around a fire off the side of some desert truckstop with the sun setting behind them, laughing and drinking beer and having a good time. one last happy moment before the narrative takes a dark turn
