@Pon, you really think anything DsO has made was made to be *enjoyed* in such a sense? You really think it's so ridiculous to say they meant to make an album to warn people instead of being merely music porn? Take a second to seriously listen to their EP: Drought. Come back and tell me it's supposed to be *enjoyed* in this way.

Well, maybe it's not what they meant, but I enjoy drought lol. I wouldn't listen to it if I didn't. But yeah, it's a dark as fuck album and I enjoy it

@Eakflanderyof, Drought is a masterpiece. If you really love that album, you'll see my point. Pon expects porn from a band that is militantly against making porn.

I feel like speaking in metaphors obscures your point, Sewer. The album here just feels sonically pretty undercooked compared to many previous releases. The songs are too static to justify their length, less explosive and dazzling from a songwriting perspective. With their previous work, they were able to excel both musically and conceptually without sacrificing either.

As far as I'm concerned, this thread is nothing but me saying : Look beyond mere sonic sensuality! Mahakala has announced his coming!
Then the masses of fools say: Yeah, but the music doesn't excite me like the old albums did.
You people deserve the cluelessness you choose

yeah… DsO from like 2005-2019 is the best black metal I’ve ever heard but this is most definitely a step down. I just dont see it as bad or even average. These guys off their game are still as good as anyone else. Just listened to it for the first time in a minute yesterday and the last two tracks are phenomenal, and the first one works great as an intro, just kind of a slump on tracks 2 and 3 but they have their moments for sure. The leads that start mid way through track 2 are fucking unhinged, I just think when they really slow down near the end of each they just kinda lose steam. Like both would’ve been better if you chopped a couple of minutes off them.
However, I think vocally this is the best record. A lot more variation than what we’ve come to expect from these guys and it all works for me.

I agree that this is not a terrible album at all. It has its unique atmosphere, it is not just watered down DSO. But I also find it less interesting than anything they released since 'Si Monvmentvm'. I remember trying briefly with the concept but gave up then.

Conceptually speaking this album is beyond the capabilities of listening. You must, in essence, feel this album. Consume it vicariously. If you're even contemplating the possibility of enjoying it then please resist. This is not to be heard, liked and certainly not dissected on those terms. Irrelevant.
In fact the absolute optimal way of consuming this album is not to listen at all (but remember: you must read the linear notes and meditate on all their teachings!)
