I know you can't grade on a curve based on how shitty previous output has been but it felt like Kanye would never make another good album again after Jesus is King and whereas you don't have to like this it's such an improvement in terms of effort and execution. almost shocks me for people to think of Donda as contiguous with his precipitous downfall artistically
the best song on Jesus is King was probably "follow god" which 2004 kanye could have made in five minutes. this sounds so worked-through in comparison. night and day, proof feels like it's in the pudding to me (much more elaborate and enveloping production at every turn)
I guess doof gave TLOP a 0.5 too though and that has a lot of really good songs
eh anyways I like this album a lot and am surprised that a lot of people on this website think it's trash

underrated kanye virtue is his writing of melodies
like man "Jail" has three or four different melodies thruout its runtime that get me going so good

"Which tracks am I supposed to not like off of this?"
all of them minus "tell the vision" that legit sucks
also, why are you asking what to enjoy? listen, either like it or don't, and move on with your life

hmm if I were to separate it out I'd say it's less the beats and samples that I'm talking about and more vocal melodies that he sings. like "don't you curse at me on TEXT why you tryna hit the FLEX" is so awesome to me as a melody
|
| |
this probably has kanyes best singing ever. like he sounds pretty decent on jail

yeah that's a good take, Ye pretty much made vocal samples a mainstay in hip hop the way we hear them now

I think there's something of an appreciable difference between samples and something you wrote. I'd file "why you tryna hit the flex" as something other than, like "she gimme money! when I'm in need!" and I think the former ("ghost town" is another example for me) is at least a little less remarked upon. doesnt really matter tho, mostly just wanted to convey the boost of crazy energy I get from "WHY you TRYna HIT the FLEX"

I'm with you Robert. Jail gets me absurdly hyped. I was at the first atlanta listening party and I was smiling like the drunken stoned idiot I was when he premiered that. It was tailor made for stadiums. Such a simple beat but you can just tell he's having the time of his life singing over it
