"see, thats an interesting point because sometimes the biggest haters are lovers of prior albums"
Sometimes
"Nowadays it's v rare that an album will impress me enough early on to get above a 4"
Same. Most of my 5s started off as 3.5s or 4s

If not all of them

I often find myself in the opposite situation. The last couple of years I get way more 'honeymoon phases' that rarely stay. Most of the time they get a lower rating after multiple listens

In that case they just stay a 4

Needless to say I'm in the same camp as StickFeit. I don't mind though, just means I occasionally have to admit I was overzealous and peel back a rating by .5 every now and then.

People rating this on what THEY feel dh should sound like kill me. It's a really fucking good shoegaze album, and I'm fine with that!

Pika 1s stuff to be noticed. No such thing as bad pub. Its also fun how threads move when shows the 1.

1's are the rarest ratings for me. I only give them to records that I simply can't seem to finish. If it is a god fucking awful piece of shit but I've finished it, I'll still give it a 1.5.
I recently actually deleted all my ratings just to start with a clean ship.

Yea same. 1s have to be actually offensive to my brain
|

Album Rating: 4.5
Exactly, I rarely put a 1 on smth, it has to be hurtful to my taste or offensive to my brain as anarchistfish says.

If I don't like an album I rarely have the patience to listen intently enough to give a genuine rating anyway
|
| |
Album Rating: 4.5
That too, If I was going to put a 1 on smth I don't think I would even be patient enough to listen to the whole thing, as I said before I know when I wont like something after 3 or 4 songs so I don't bother puting a score on it.

I'd like to reinforce my love for The Gnashing on this.
It's really cool when the dude sings "hear these hoowwls" really could be pulled of by Bob Dylan (think about it). Also, unlike some, I can feel deep connection between the first and second parts, besides the obvious deconstruction of the same notes. The second part also rings to me as Radiohead space rock era and that gets me goin fs. The track is kinda simple but it works really good with me.

Shellstar, Lament for Wasps, Villain, The Gnashing, and Mombasa are my frontrunners after two listens but this whole thing is breathtaking

Album Rating: 3.9
I still can’t get over how they released the singles and somehow still turned them into quality sleepers in a wider album context. Might have to bump my rating.

That would be something I d like to see. 3.8?

I spent all of 2013 rabidly stanning Sunbather as the most transformative work of art of the 21st century.
In 2021, I don't even want to hear this until the discourse dies down so I can listen in peace, say nothing, then quietly slot it on my aoty list. I guess this is what they call growing up.
