Nah it is somewhat defensive, I clearly like this record and think LDR often gets a raw deal. But I think there's lots of bias the other way too, so just pointing it out

certain niches may appreciate Lana I could feel, but idk it’s not too surprising that even without all the drama, people wouldn’t really feel this music, especially here. It’s got lush instrumentation (sometimes) but it’s so gd boring.
and the piano ballads can just die

I feel like pointing out bias on any review or opinion is a moot point, everyone's opinion is informed by their experiences and being 'objective' is basically impossible.

yeah it’s like the Lana stans think they aren’t biased

Knowing absolutely nothing about Lana and listening to 'Video Games' in 2011 honestly I thought it was close to a classic and I did check 'Born to Die' and thought it was ok, some promise, definitely could have imagined her writing a good album at some stage.
Haven't really been won over by her since, so it's not really an image thing for me - I don't think she's lived up to the promise of that song or particularly diverged from it either.

My experience with Lana is this:
Like Doof I thought Video Games was a proper fresh of breath air, Born to Die was decent overall too. Disliked Ultraviolence and Honeymoon and gave up after that. Then my other half told me NFR was really good so I checked it out and was pleasantly surprised. I'm definitely not predisposed to hate Lana's music.

having said all that, this is a bad

Yep, but I have brought up points in the NFR thread and gotten quite hectic push back just by suggesting LDR took a lot of flak at the start of her career, like I was a little surprised at how aggressive the reaction was. Just sayin'

I don't know how anyone could disagree with that, there was constant debate about how 'authentic' she was and whether she was a label plant. It was pretty obnoxious and that SNL performance didn't help.

it’s actually on metacritic now and no one cares

Seeing the 85 go down to 83, however small that difference is, is pretty satisfying

I like her but you could see this album coming. NFR was a decent but relatively uninspired album that got massively overrated, and people treated it like a masterpiece. Seems whatever she puts out, her rabid fanbase and the media laps it up, which means that she's in no way challenged to push herself artistically, and the result is Chemtrails, her first real artistic failure of an album.

Tbh, I enjoyed this, but I am perfectly fine with this being shit all over. Girl needs to be dropped down a few pegs after NFR. NFR wasn’t good and everyone heaping praise all over it (including, yes, this website) made me hate it and her even further. I kinda hated that I actually liked this album, but it was okay
