I have faith in Muse. They can probably pull their shit together once Matthew Bellamy gets Queen and Radiohead out of his head. He made a statement on an interview that on the last two albums he allowed himself to listen to music again, the result, wearing his influences like a flag on his sleeve. So he can probably write something more original if he just stopped. The lack of electronics should prevent another Madness or Follow Me (thank god). Maybe they will be more ambitious with this new record and maybe write something that will actually earn them their classification as progressive rock. All hopes and dreams.

The great vocal performances in the 2nd Law in otherwise average songs (Follow Me, Big Freeze, Survival, Explorers) are what save it from being a terrible album.
