Lmao. What Potsy said for sure, but also - and to a lesser extent - I'm rebalancing my ratings. Did a ratings wipe on myself this morning and wrote a blog post alluding to my intentions.

I've been thinking of just copy pasting all my ratings into a word doc for reference and getting a ratings wipe for 2020 too. i've been here so long that any rating older than a couple years really isn't reflective of my tastes today or how i rate either so it would be nice to have a fresh pie chart and just kind of rate old albums from a fresh perspective if i so happen to revisit them etc

That outfit is baller, the life of the party would wear it.
Sowing I saw your blog post and totally endorse people being more selective with ratings, it makes the 4.5s and 5s more meaningful and important, but Nick Cave is not the place to do it!
Skeleton Tree is actually one of my only 5s of any album released this whole decade. It might be my only 5/5 for any album released after 2010.

Skeleton Tree and this are about equal for me. On ST the pain is more immediate and shattering, but this is wistful and incredibly sincere with time for added context. Neither is an all-time great for me hence the bump down, but they both absolutely personify "excellence."

Sowing I love you but I'm gonna drive to your house in PA or whatever state you live in and shake you silly in your lazy boy if you're gonna rate these lower than Taylor Swift

Do not fear, my highest rated Swift is a 4 (tie between Speak Now and 1989). Somehow, I don't think this comment will win you over!

haha good, I remember 1989 being like 4.5 or 4.7 for you at one point. It's not a bad album at all, I think I rated it 3. Can't stand what she's made afterwards tho.

Reputation was underrated. It had a ton of great songs with just a few horrible attempts at rap sprinkled in. Her newest, Lover, was underwhelming though - just empty, saccharine pop.

I couldn't find anything redeemable about Reputation, but the rap sections were the most cringy and embarrassing parts. At least Lover was just inoffensive nonsense and not as painful to listen to, most of the time.

Album is ass. Nick Cave's lucky Kanye and Chance both dropped albums this year or this would be crowned king of the turds

"This is jaw dropping at times but I mostly just return to Bright Horses on repeat, as I lack the attention span and emotional investment that it takes to really let this thing envelope my senses every time."
same tbh. although when i do listen to this in full it is amazing

Yes definitely. Don't want to take away from the fact that it's beautiful, maybe I just wish it was slightly more diverse. There'll definitely be days I spin this in full and almost convince myself to 5 it again, I'm sure.

I have more 5's than Sowing now.
I feel like this breaks the universe somehow.

Spoiler alert: it's already broken.
