I haven’t heard the Swedish one yet but I don’t imagine it’ll change the experience all that much. The vocal patterns were pretty much the same for the singles iirc

I must admit I am approaching a 3 on this.

I did find the lyrics really bad - certain phrases, very conspiracy theory/evil bad government sort or stuff or just plain clunky in that they either didn't scan too well or stood out too much to a laughable degree.

Think I'd rather not discern them.

Lol that makes sense. I wonder if the English version is a literal translation or if they Mikael had to change certain phrases to make it work

'Ulterior motive, the grinning face of leadership

A selfish wish to control a nation in his grip

Strong against weak and immobilized

Secular for fascist lies'

just an example I found off LyricGenius - for me stuff like that in a mannered delivery is a real eyeroll, hard to not giggle

Doof, what Opeth lyrics do you like?

I've never really noticed the lyrics too much - I did listen to Heritage a few times this year as zak kept on bumping it, and while the lyrics/vocals were a bit meh they didn't have this 'deep political sentiment/bad people afoot' sort of vibe which just came across as embarrassing here for my tastes

Yes, I do realise prog lyrics are near-uniformly awful it's just they dominated my listen here. It really was a 'shaaaat up' reaction to them I'm afraid

If I'm being 100% honest the only time I ever cared about Opeth lyrics was on Damnation. Only listened to this twice (on my third time as I type this) but I probably couldn't quote consecutive verses off this. Just always been that way with this band.

For the record I did rate 'Heritage' a 3.5 so something has gone wrong for me here

agreed because that album is the worst thing they've ever done (out of Opeth albums I've heard, I should clarify)

Heritage is a beaut. Severely misunderstood and underrated.

"learn 2 prog"

I enjoy good prog like KC, Camel, and Moody Blues, but not random soft yodels and trite soft-to-loud transitions ;-)

Random soft yodels? Where are those on Heritage?
