It's more consistent than quite a few of their 80's albums.

and to be honest the highs also aren't far off the highs on a lot of their 'classic' albums for me.

must disagree there, even if i like matter of life and death, the highs from the classic era are better by a bunch

Agreed. Even Piece of Mind which has some weaker tracks, still has amazing highs

Maybe the highs on AMOLAD don't rival the very best songs on their 80's albums but I don't think they're too far off.

Also there's something that irks me on most of their 80's albums with Bruce. I mean don't get me wrong they're fantastic albums but consistency was always a problem with the albums released during that era. Piece of Mind suffers from that the most and even Powerslave suffers from a significant dip in quality during the middle of the album. The only one that isn't effected by that is probably Seventh Son.

I never felt AMOLAD that much honestly. I really like the first two tracks but as whole it gets a bit too dense quickly. I'd take Brave New World over it.

My favorite Maiden has and always will be Somewhere In Time though, followed by Powerslave.

"phantom and title track are both too good"

Phantom Of The Opera is definitely my favorite track with Paul, along with Wrathchild and Murders In The Rue Morgue.

This and Seventh Son are my favourites nowadays, and the only 2 I still listen to.

I agree with the consistency issue on Piece of Mind but the other Bruce albums are pretty consistent I'd say. I mean sure there are dips here and there but with tracks like Hallowed, Mariner or Seventh Son it's bound to happen. But the lows aren't really low for me.

I still think the streak of albums with Bruce released in the 80's was their best era without a doubt it's just that apart from Seventh Son none of the albums feel that cohesive to me, it's always about the individual standout songs, whereas AMOLAD is best when taken as a whole.

powerslave is top maiden, the only "weaker" song is back in the village which isnt filler at all, the rest are all like 6/5
