"funny how sputnik changes with time"
now if only the averages could reflect our current sentiments...it would look something like Somewhere 3.9, Wildlife 4.1, Rooms 3.7, Panorama 4.0

i mean, there's NO WAY this gets as high ratings in 2014 as today, and vice versa i think rooms would be much better received today on this site than back then
i remember actually liking rooms a lot when it came out, to the point where it kinda became a hill to die on for me because people really wanted another satb or wildlife instead of that, whereas it seems like the users itt just really DON'T want them to go back to the old sound

I enjoyed this more than Rooms of the House, but I'm really not in the mood for this right now. Objectively though I can't rate it anything less than a 4.0 because it is a good album by them, but it's like a 2.0 based on what I'm in the mood for right now.

"to the point where it kinda became a hill to die on for me because people really wanted another satb or wildlife instead of that"
yup guilty as charged, but Rooms grew on me in a huge way. I don't want them to necessarily "do another wildlife," but that album was just lightning in a bottle as far as emotional intensity and immediacy. And the storytelling is very specific and has crystal clear narrative flow (King Park, I See Everything, St. Paul), where some parts of Rooms and even this feel just a bit more abstracted. Again, Rooms and this are both excellent (this in particular will probably be a 4.5 by year's end, if not sooner), but the immediacy of Wildlife made it a pretty popular choice. I'd argue the immediacy also made Somewhere so beloved, but the context of relationship melodrama just made it seem like a sad teen.

You Ascendant is made by its lyrics as opposed to the song itself

You Ascendent to me is absolutely brilliant.
When I die let me do so beside you
When we die let us go at the same time
For me personally this album could only be better if at the times he talks about his relationship it would be "gender neutral" instead of talking about wearing dresses (guys can wear dresses but generally speaking they don't). My gay self could better insert myself into the narrative so to speak. That said, I can still very much relate and I love how personal this album feels.
