If they really did sample crash bandicoot that would be pretty cool.

Crash Bandicoot music is definitely superior to this album.
@aubergine Saint Anger was definitely a bit unfair. The bad drum production just made me think of that.
@Calc The return to nu metal influences is the main reason I don't like this. It's one thing to release a badly produced album, it's another to do so with one influenced by a crappy old genre from when I was a baby. It was lame in 1999 and it's even lamer with 40+ year old men playing it. If they released a dodgy album influenced by old X Japan/1980s speed metal I'd find it a lot more tolerable.

I mean this sounds like the shit tbh so I'll just blindly agree with a yes.

If Dir covering Miscast is anything to go by the thought of Die attempting speed metal solos makes me want to gag.

@Calc Hilariously botched solos would be way more entertaining than nu metal. The dull non-riffs of that genre just bore me. SOAD always stood out for me because they could actually write a riff. Also why RATM sounds so much better than nu metal despite being pretty much that genre a few years earlier; heaven forbid, they wrote riffs. Rapping over Led Zeppelin is an interesting concept. Rapping over bland chugs isn't.

We've had this chat before so I don't really have anything to add, but even then until they get some thicc production back I doubt they could do any enjoyable Six Nine-Marrow type stuff anymore. They should have just played to their strengths and go more lush ballads, further down the Arche rabbithole.

I know our opinions on nu metal differ greatly. I do agree that mellowing out would have been the right decision, though. Having them do a Damnation type album could have worked. Or, best of all, another song like 2013 Macabre.

Damn, new album in a few months? Like, a studio one?
How unusual for this band, makes this feel like a rushed LP now which makes all kinds of sense...
|

No Pleb, a new Sukekiyo album (Kyo's side project).
And this is a rushed LP, so much so that the band said it was.

I mean they had what, 4 years to come up with something? Probably their label being unreasonable in there somewhere cos the way these guys are advertised etc is pretty rubbish.
Gonna drop my rating tbh, I only love 2 songs on here really.
People may disagree but I think the band should call it a day. Their Uro-Arche run was impeccable and felt like a band who’d peaked in terms of their overall creativity and songwriting.

It was the label's fault. They pushed an unreasonable deadline to the extent Shinya in an interview that the deadline was the tightest they ever had. It may have seemed ages for them to make something better but after Arche was released they had a full year of NA/EU touring, then prepping the new single/Arche Budokan and then the Mode tours for their 20th anniversary lasted from Jun 2016 to October 2017 with very little breaks and in between that, a new Sukekiyo album was made. After a small break, they had had Ningen in March 2018 which left a short amount of time for the band to make a new album whilst Kyo still had some Sukekiyo shows to do. It was a long wait but they sure didn't have a long duration to work on it.
If the band have nothing more to say, I'd want a final Budokan show and to ride into the sunset but the label owns their souls and will milk them dry. Hopefully Sukekiyo due to being a side project won't fall into the same fate, which they haven't so far minus Passio recently.

I say we all band together and attend that final Budoksn when it happens.

Good luck trying to get tickets whenever that happens, but yes I would love to attend their send-off.

@Calc Obviously the label wants to make as much money as they can, but if DEG wants to retire they will. Whether they do is another question entirely. It's common for bands to go around as a shadow of their former selves for years or even decades (In Flames, Deep Purple, X Japan, etc).
I'm always surprised when I remember Deep Purple still exists, but I really shouldn't be.

Band put out three masterpieces in a row and one album I don’t like, time to call it a day.
