so why do you think it sucks Jorge? if you don't like it, write a counterpoint review. I can think of plenty of reasons why not to like it, though they obviously don't outweigh the strengths IMO

Why do I need to write a counterpoint review to address the needless inserted divisiveness of this one and its comment chain?

I didn't really see "needless inserted divisiveness," I saw one guy writing a review stating his opinions, followed up by a bunch of other people with other opinions...which is not really a problem?

I never thought I’d see the day when there was a genuine contender to sabbaths N.I.B live performance in Paris 1970 but this trumps it!!!
Band is so good OMG!!!!!

"I think this record sucks, and I don't feel that way because I want to be shocking or because I'm not a genuine fan. I listened to Upsides and Greatest Generation so much that my original CD copies barely play anymore because they are so worn and torn from the thousands of rotations they have endured over the years."
dude you're overreacting lol

The Ocean Grew Hands hands is a lyrical masterpiece. It hits me so hard.

Fans talk about this band in such an odd way.
dgmr, I thought TGG was awesome but whenever I meet fans of these guys its always in terms like
"wow this hit me"
"this song is beautiful"
"these lyrics describe me"
I used to work with a guy who would always describe them like that. the way he would talk about them was like only the fans will get how deep they rly are.
Idk, they are kinda like brand new for kids who haven't found brand new yet

a lot of soupy's lyrics are very relatable, because he writes fairly directly, unambiguously and insightfully on experiences and feelings that are common amongst young people. like the whole of suburbia is essentially a detailed portrait of living as a young person in the suburbs with no specific goals or focus, yet also troubled by an underlying sense of (similarly nonspecific) discontent + the disillusionment that comes with growing up; overall, a pretty relatable experience. even tho soupy doesnt disclose or fixate upon the actual cause of his discontent, he describes the circumstances around it with such evocative detail that he gets away with a blatant everyman approach precisely because he makes his art so resonant despite being quite inspecific with regard to theme.

he just talks about cigarettes and desperation
pretty much his entire fanbase can relate
|

he very rarely talks about cigarettes
also its not as simple as relation by mere subject matter. his lyrics resonate becuz they're evocative and well crafted.

“He just talks about cigarettes” what is this Moose Blood?

man, suburban America must be boring as shit if you need to start a band just to complain about it lol jk I get that people who have grown up in the seemingly dead-end parts of suburbia may feel a connection to his lyrics.

normal singing vox are fine, albeit boring. Lyrics are shite. Music is good though
|

All his singing sounds like hes super impassioned.
He's either doing a sad croon or doing that shouty thing where he sings one word with so much ~passion~
