I wasn't crazy about Masochist but l reckon the rest of the album will be great

I liked everything about Masochist except for the chorus. That melodic section in the middle was great, the heavy ending was great, the general riffing in the verses was great, the chorus just sank the song. They're on record saying that song is different and they wanted it to be different, so I'm not worried about the direction of the album. Plus, Hypermania sounds wild. I watched a pretty good live clip of it last night and it sounds like it goes pretty damn hard.

It's missing something. The live version has more vocal variation. I wish Jamie felt comfortable enough to switch it up on record. I gave his mid oriented style a pass on this release because it worked, but a song like Hypermania really benefits from some variety, especially when the vocal patterns are clearly intended to sound a bit frantic. The rest of the track is good but not great, it didn't click with me like stuff from this release, or even past releases does.

I'm a little worried that they're moving away from my favorite aspects of their sound but it may just end up being a really diverse record.
