"could wil or the people around him be made to confront this problem or hold wil accountable while it all remained private? unlikely, hence the public revelations."
I'm just not convinced of this; I don't trust this broad group, "the public", to hold a person accountable without prejudice. Wagner is, due to his fame, much more public than most, sure, but I wouldn't condone public shaming with regard to someone I know, so why accept it for someone I don't, simply because he's a public figure? I don't know, though. I'm so conflicted. Georgia brought up the Ryan Adams situation... and I don't think it's even a little bit comparable: there were allegations of sexual abuse of a minor in that case, and fairly transparent threats to ruin women's careers in the music business. What Wil did was wrong, but I'm not willing to take all this without a grain of salt. Georgia brought up the fact that the band, without caution, dragged her name in an AMA. I remember that AMA, and -- well, no. Her name was brought up, by another commenter, and Wil attempted to supress the situation -- he said, from memory, something along the lines of, "Yes, Georgia's very mean, but she shouldn't be brought up". He even deleted the question and comment not long after. (This isn't even taking account of the fact that Georgia herself had a song very clearly about Wil on Camp Cope's latest album, which she was performing well before the release of More Afraid.) With Adams, it was much more defensible to have had it being brought into the public: he, in private, threatened the livelihoods of these women -- the allegations were also a lot more serious, and a lot more clear-cut, and, given his power, a real threat if not brought into the public sphere.
I don't trust people, I suppose, to conduct these kinds of things without prejudice. I wouldn't be able to, either, of course -- Wil's music has meant a lot to me in the past, and that'll inevitably colour the stance I take on the matter. It's not good, and it's not effective. What was said was ugly, but... I don't know. The problem with this stance is it inevitably delegitimises men and women with legitimate concerns who get dragged into a wider, and in my opinion far less thoughtful (than it needs to be) debate about serious issues.
Please know, also, that this isn't a defense of Wil or a condemnation of Georgia.

Shit. If there wasn't a restraining order, and there was missing context to those messages, then it was super shitty for that girl on insta and Georgia to handle this situation like they did. Especially for someone who's well-known to have the mental health issues he does.
What gets me is that people online in response to this on a Music Feeds article were saying shit like "this is a terrible apology" when this new statement, while apologetic, is so much more than that. Sucks to not be able to see them on tour next week, but this situation is awful.
