robert I have been ribbing on that for a while except I call it the classic shoegaze rhythm and it is basically the best guitar rhythm although I can’t really define why. The Radio Dept uses it a lot too, and it really probably originated from Loveless although Loveless is a much sloppier implementation of it

I might not know what you mean by shoegaze rhythm. But if it's what I think it is, it probably came from Dinosaur Jr.

"I might not know what you mean by shoegaze rhythm. But if it's what I think it is, it probably came from Dinosaur Jr."
count along to the songs (usually 1, 2, 3, 4 ad infinitum) and see how the rhythm of the guitar goes from being "on" the numbers you're saying to between them. that's sweet trip baby

yeah it's basically 3 downstrokes, 1 upstroke, 4 downstrokes, 1 upstroke but played with a certain timing and often alternates between emphasizing the B and the high E string for the melody notes

if you cant identify the rhythmic similarities (and that's putting it lightly) between the guitar chords on the songs I mentioned (darkness, conservation of two, tiny houses, and chocolate matter, plus more surely) thats on you

not sure I associate it with shoegaze generally but it's a telltale sweet trip thang for sure

darkness rhythm might be consistently sweet trip
but it is very coheed and cambria, so that takes trumps

it's really not sweet trip's thing they definitely got it from Loveless, but they also made it a million times better (Tiny Houses might be the best implementation of it)

i haven’t responded to the rhythmic similarities of those songs at all, what i cannot take seriously at all is describing that as the “classic shoegaze rhythm” which u do in possibly every thread

ok well first of all i probably would have stopped but robert is enabling me, second of all it's classic cause it goes back to loveless and that album is one of the first main shoegaze albums and a classic according to ryus

Yeah it’s like why would that be a thing specific to shoegaze…? On the other hand I distinctly remember Slowdive doing this on Star Roving.
