Halo On Fire is growing to be one of my favs on this album. What's everyone else's thoughts?

Halo on fire, Dream No More, Spit Out the Bone, are all highlights for me. Spit out is probably one of their best songs in the last 16 years of their career.

atlas rise is a highlight for me as well.....i hear a lot of criticisms on Kirk's soloing, but that 2 minute section or so around the 3:40 mark is pretty damn sweet

I feel like this is the first Metallica album in a long time where I'm actually excited to stick around to the end of the songs, because they are back to doing cool instrumental passages and shaking things up a bit

Kirk's solos on this album are hot garbage. It's a shame, really.

And Death Magnetic > this generally

bar a couple of tunes, kirk's solos are usually pretty repetitive and derivative, never a good combination.

Some of this sounds ok but the songs still drag on far too long and as usual with this band I find myself looking for the skip button. Their philosophy seems to be 'why make do with 4 or 5 minutes when 7 or 8 will do.'

Really liked this album, it's much better than what I expected. A decent blend of Death Magnetic, the Black album with some Load/Reload touches here and there. James sounds great on this, some of the riffs are the best they written in decades, and the songs themselves are enjoyable despite the obvious fact, that Lars really holds them back tempo-vise.

Also the solos are the most forgetable Kirk ever performed.

Kirk and Lars are so uninspired and it shows. They need to be replaced tbh.

It's the Hetfield show for sure but I'm completely fine with that.

Murder One is the only song that has to grow on me still, and I think I'm about there. Enjoyed the last listen.

Not bad at all. Real pleasant surprise. James improved voice is a huge highlight.
