New song is rock solid instrumentally but I kinda wish they were braver in the songwriting

I totally agree, they need to vary the structures a bit. My saying it "sounds like DT" wasn't necessarily a huge complement. It sounds like everything they've done since 2000. I'd kill for some variation in song structure.

Even in the 2000s their stuff was way more interesting with lots of odd time signatures and dynamic rhythm changes. Literally every song on Atoma is in 4/4 and there are no really standout moments where they throw you a curveball, it’s just a straight plod from beginning to end

Heard the new song too, and mirror what Crysis said. Yeah you can hear the new guitarists' new influence heavily, so that is different. Cant wait to hear the final product.

A riffier Atoma. I'm down with that.

New song is great, some of those leads remind me of skyfire which is awesome. This thing is gonna riff hard

It actually sounds more familiar than I expected it to, but it's still really good. The solo section is nice, that's where they gave the new duo some room to show their styles

Someone was able to hear the new album and give descriptions and thoughts on it. I’m not sure this does much to alleviate my doubts about the new album but I guess we’ll see.
I know people are really hoping DT will return to the riff-centric days of old but tbh the thing they’ve aways been best at is crafting memorable melodies, riffs are just a by-product. We can look at the last two albums as examples, Atoma was more riff-driven but Construct ended up being the better album

Cool read, and thanks for posting.

mmm seems there are a lot of clean vocals then. As a fan of Projector and the re-energized guitars of the single I'm curious to hear the record
thanks [2]

My main problem with it ended up being its straightforwardness. The clean choruses wouldn’t have been such an issue if every song didn’t follow such a rigid structure. Not every band needs to be prog but it could have benefited from a bit more variation.
That’s an oof from me. Hope he just has bad ears

Im not surprised.
The band isn't going to reinvent themselves, nor go in some wild, more progressive direction, unless they set out to do that and state thats what they're doing beforehand. Their style works for them and their fanbase is evidence of that. I get that people around here want progression though.

I don’t expect them to change wildly, but having a few surprises would be nice. I’m probably sounding pretty negative but I’ve liked these guys for a long time and seeing them stagnate is kinda disappointing. Still excited to hear for myself though, if there’s one thing I’ve learned about metal reviews it’s to not trust them!

My expectations are pretty neutral but as long as they make a decent album I'm happy with it

I was curious about which guitarist was on the left and right channels during the solo section, so I asked Johan on one of his YouTube videos and he said it was him on both of them
