There's certainly truth in that, though I myself wasn't talking in a general sense, but in response to why this album is liked. If the vocals or instrumental use isn't to someone's liking there's not to be done about that, but in the end there's a lot to enjoy about what this band does right.

Oh, I wasn't saying it as a knock on the band (even if I'm not super huge on this album, I still enjoy a fair amount of their stuff), it just seems like the kind of band that from my experience with overall Sput taste, I'm surprised they're as consistently well received as they are

Contrarily, I can't believe there's as much dislike for this band on here as there is. I'm just so confident in my assertion that I think Casey is one of the greatest composers of the 21st century.... that it seems weird to see as many 2s and 2.5s as there are here. I honestly can't think of many albums like this that are quite literally flawless.

"I was talking in general, a great song isn't enough to make something enjoyable for a listener. A death metal cover version of this album might not be to your taste but the songs would still be the same so the fault wouldn't lie there"
This logic I completely disagree with. One shoe definitely does NOT fit all. That's like saying, take an absolutely brilliant rap track and do an electro pop cover of it and it should be the same - hell no. Music is created in a way for a specific purpose. I'm going back to my argument that regardless of weather or not you enjoyed or interpreted this album well does not matter. You giving this a 40% rating just shows how much you lack when it comes to musical knowledge - honestly you're opinions lose value when you make yourself seem this inadequate to identify something half decent.
You might as well rate albums on, "how much did I like this?". By that logic we'll end up with illiterate idiots toping the charts with nicki minaj songs.

Or he just didn't enjoy the album and found flaws in it that affected his listen? Dude he's a contributing reviewer for a reason.

His initial statement was "fuck this shit".....let that sink in

It was sarcastic response to "sputnik has been civil lately," at least that's how I saw it as.

I don't like any RnB. Better go rate any album I can think of 1.
Great logic guys.
ps: a big dick here does not justify anything, I'm new here so I've yet to lick anyone's ass and take their word as gospel. Deal with it.

Um... If you generally don't like a genre, you either won't listen to the genre or will listen and rate it low. That's how ratings work. I don't have many low ratings because I mostly avoid things I won't like.

Well the logic people seem to have is ignoring all aspects of music and going down to their primitive feelings....This is not the billboard 100. We are not basic people - my assumption is that people here actually have some sort of musical knowledge. Which seems to be a misconception on my part, proven ever so often.

What is your argument? People rate based on their feelings on an album?

Music is something to be enjoyed. If an album is enjoyed by you, rate it highly. If an album is not enjoyed by you, give it a low rating. I agree in that I wont rate albums in genres that I do not enjoy, because I feel I'm not really qualified to judge the album due to my predisposition to dislike any albums in that genre. But apart from that caveat, and given that we are talking about genres that I actually have an inclination to listen to, I rate albums based on how much I enjoy them.
And there is nothing wrong with rating Nicki Minaj highly. Music is subjective and clearly many people find something to enjoy in Nicki Minaj's music. That's just as valid as you getting your head inside some avant-garde noise music. Once again, it's about personal enjoyment, not about patting yourself on the back for liking weird or sophisticated stuff.
To be honest, as a fan of alternative music, I would much rather have a drink with someone who loves Nicki Minaj than with someone who looks down on those who do.

I give up.
Appreciation, that was my point.
W/e though, going to get drunk and enjoy some of the fine musical abilities of pitbull now.
Last post, cheers.
Edit: I'll still be lurking around - but I seriously have given up for now. There's no changing the structure of this place atm. If you have a big dick here you can say the biggest load of bullshit and have hordes of people agree purely based on your status. Also Whispered4tw nails it < 3

I think what m4j3stiq is getting at here is that people shouldn't rate albums low if it's not your type of music/genre at all, to at least see and appreciate the general quality of the music without letting your own ''non-educated'' opinion bring down the rating even though the music had no chance of pleasing your senses anyway, because it's not trying to be what you want it to be in the first place.
