Oh no, the political messages don't piss me off at all, I agree with most of them. It's, like I said, the framing and the contempt which drives me nuts.

It's very "on the nose" but I like it? She doesn't try to hide the messages, but puts them to the extreme.

What's "lolbad" about the lyrics? And why would that make me a fan of Trump? I hate the asshole.

Just because they are one sided and very direct doesn't mean they are bad. I actually really love the lyrics on "4 Degrees" because so many people don't honestly realize the problems with climate change as evident by president buffoon we have now.

Flag buddy cmon. How are the lyrics NOT lolbad?

The only thing bad about the lyrics here are that they are a little "blame-y" but I'm not going to debate you on this if you have no clear argument. I even like the perspective she takes on "Drone Bomb Me"

"debate" me? "no clear argument"? Bro we're just talking lol. If you like the lyrics here then good, im glad you could enjoy the album.

@ALA: I don't think the lyrics are "lolbad", I just think that they are worded very shallow and overtly arrogant.
@AFA: 4 Degrees probably have the best lyrics on the whole project, agree with you there. But about Drone Bomb Me, don't you think that it is a bit pretentious to take the perspective of an afghani girl who lost her parents to a drone bomb attack if you are a person who never experienced that? Reread my last longer post, because I do think I worded my problems with that very understandably.

Lets not forget that how an artist executes something is just as important. Listening Winds by Talking Heads and Pin Out by Kate Bush are much better than Drone but they have similiar perspectives

Not really, I think it's supposed to disturb and make the listener feel bad. I don't think you have to experience something to make others think about it. Art/literature often puts us in the perspective of another because it's easier for us to grow an emotional attachment that way. It helps us visualize something we might never have to see ourselves.

@ALA: Exactly. I think that's mostly due to the fact that the Heads didn't write from the perspective of the main character and Bush at least had the sensibility to word her song completely non-arrogant, and more in a "this violent stuff really happened holy hell" sort of way. Which works just way better if you want to tread ice this thin.
@AFA: That's true, but if pure shock value was all she was going for, then the message really does take some strikes. Because the people who already see everything like she does will love that, of course, but most other people will not think about the lyrics deeper if they are just a "Huh, so how do you feel NOWWW?!?!?!?". They will get pissed and move on. No change made.

Hmm I see your point, but I honestly think sometimes it needs shock value. Especially since now I'm looking at who our president is.

@plane: Sorry, but that make the lyrics even worse for me, because now she's using a real world circumstance as dress-up for a sentiment that could have been explored in far more nuance and detail instead of hyper-aggressive shock value. And most people won't look past that, because it is worded in so much pathos, contempt and arrogance. I know that this album isn't stupid. I know what she is trying to go for. But she is using ways that are ineffecient in directing attention to these problems for people that don't know her and her political stance AND are also agreeing with it. She couldn't be preaching to the choir more.
@AFA: I get the necessity of shock value, but it should make people think, and not actively make them try to turn the music off. And the problem with y'alls president is, is that "shocking" statements about him and his actions actually give him more ground to burn and more people to dismiss that his supporters can rally behind.
