i'm nowhere close to being an ironic hipster, nor a massive trap fan, but i like some trap simply because it's fun. trap is the natural progression from 90s dirty south and memphis rap like three 6 mafia--its southern rap for the modern era. the criticisms about lyrics are pretty inane since that's an issue that plagues a number of genres.

music fans, especially older generations, shitting on new genres is a age-old phenomenon, but it's also an stupid one and i wish it would die out. when has musical conservatism ever benefitted anyone? embracing change is important. trap music was not borne out of j dilla-type hip hop or backpacker rap, so it's not supposed to imitate that style. it makes no sense to shit on trap for not following hip-hop traditions

"Embracing change in important only if the new shit is good"
ah okay good point. hadn't thought of it like that before /s

"The fuckin beats are repetitive"
since when have hip-hop beats not been repetitive lol the very nature of a beat is that it repeats over and over

https://genius.com/Three-6-mafia-sucks-on-dick-lyrics
yeah southern hip hop has really had insightful lyricism since the start!

also please tell me with a straight face that korn's lyrics aren't just as cringeworthy as most trap lyrics lol
