Yeah same mate.
Them two albums are one of the biggest surprises I’ve ever experienced in music.
I was introduced to them with One Day Son and I didn’t know whether to listen to it or spit on it.
I absolutely loved it, still do to be fair. I enjoy Be Human as well.

Despite being their mainstream hit i love Mercury Summer maybe more than any other fightstar

Yeah I ignored them completely until I happened across the video for Floods on a music channel and realised they’re brilliant! Charlie seems a cool guy tbf, Busted aside, and fair play to him for spending the first years of fightstar getting hit with piss bottles at festivals and never giving up.

Maybe it’s a sign he is an entitled spoiled arsehole with absolutely fuck all self awareness. Talk about not catering to your audience.
‘Hello I was that chap from a superficial, manufactured corporate tool boy band but here I am now at Donnington because I’m ‘one of you’ LETS ROCK!!!!!!
Or maybe he is a single rallying cry against conformity and was trying to subvert the system by becoming part of the machine.
Or possibly he is a nice bloke but thick as shit, well intentioned but just doesn’t get it

Nah I read some interviews with him a while back and if I remember right he was a young lad in Fightstar and a big record company said he had the right look for a band they were putting together and he’d never have to work a proper job again so he took it.
He did all the media teen mag bullshit, played sold out Wembley arenas etc but kept Fightstar going in the background. Then after they’d recorded their first EP he split up Busted managing to both make a bunch of young girls cry and a bunch of more mature music lovers say ‘nah mate you’re that bell end with the eyebrows from a boy band’.
The question is, would Fightstar have ever made it if he hadn’t done the boy band stuff? It certainly helped for exposure at the beginning even though it wasn’t the most positive!

Sold his soul
Fucker should burn, eyebrows first.

haha right?! what a sell-out
now, where's my monkees compilation?

Lol I’d have done what he did in a heartbeat as a teenager. I was in a decent band but we were never gonna make it because we all had to get proper jobs.
If only I’d have been more attractive and had more eyebrow girth
|
| |
See I just don’t get that at all.
Of course the money would be ridiculously tempting and in reality it would take a cast iron fortitude but an 18yr old me would’ve just seen a bunch of suits trying to pimp me out and I would’ve told them to get to fuck.
How much better woud it have panned out if he’d done that, stuck to his guns and fightstar became a ‘success’
|
| |
agreed with zak, fucking imagine touring for year 3000

I’ve been working as a suit for the last fourteen years myself though mate so I’d have much rather pimped myself out for a couple of years and then had a rocky start but ultimately became a massively successful band.
I don’t think their earlier material would’ve been enough to get them noticed personally. I don’t really think they found their sound until ‘One Day Son’ and would they’ve been able to keep going for five years or so without needing to get proper jobs? Of course if he could’ve grinded it out and become successful just being in Fightstar that would’ve obviously been better though.

You’re not in advertising are ya shem?

to be fair, when i went to the year 3000 zak's great great great grandaughter WAS pretty fine

Lol pheromone
Nah Zak, not that kind of suit, I’m the boring kind that helps a really big global company make even more money
I think it’s an interesting topic because I reckon when I was 18 and my band got in Kerrang mag (4/5 k!) I would NEVER have done what Charlie did. But now, looking back on it, I absolutely would’ve 100% if it meant my life was being a musician!

i read my fair bit of kerrang back in the day n thats super cool...
what band? (you dont have to share bb)

Sadly my old band never recorded anything to a decent quality (there was a demo but it was hideous so I prefer not to share), the 4K review was for a live show at the Camden Barfly back in the day. That particular issue did not age well though with that terrible band Aiden on the front cover and an interview with Lostprophets inside haha
I manage to record some better quality stuff on my own under Serene Paralysis which I like to share but nothing from the old band days sadly except a VHS from when we headlined a local festival!
|
| |
haha that's cool - Kerrang was a fucking awful mag, all things considered. Still, can imagine that was dope.
|
| |
Yeah that is fair play Shem. Camden Barfly, quality! The sellout to become a globalist crony is unforgivable though.

Haha yeah was great at the time thanks guys
Don’t worry Zak I’m suitably ashamed of what I’ve become. I’m even playing as corpo on my first Cyberpunk playthrough lol
