"However, this is still a pretty good album imo."
A 4 seems too high for you then, no?

"A guy on metal archives did a review saying that Sunbather is Orchid's s/t album with different packaging and an extended runtime smh"
yeah but like on most reviews on the site, the point that guy wants to make is "it's not even metal 0%"

after the jizzfest that was sunbather's reception im surprised this is that high

Sunbather should be a 4.3 at the lowest honestly. A 4 is far too low. This deserves right around the 4 mark, imo. No Deafheaven should be in the 3's, except maybe Roads but a 3.9 for Roads is agreeable

yeah sunbather being that low is kinda weird but it did get a looooot of criticism. Surprised this isn't a 3.6 tho tbh bc it's sloppy as hell.

Yeah. Just something about the average and Sunbather's rating chart is weird. Rating chart looks higher than a 4. But ehh whatever. It's a 5 to me. As is this album. It feels cohesive to me and I haven't stopped listening since the stream : D
"yeah but like on most reviews on the site, the point that guy wants to make is 'it's not even metal 0%'"
Sunbather being a metal album is debatable but I mean stuff like Russian Circles and Cloudkicker have been lumped into the post-metal category. I can see it being in that category for sure. The blast beats add to the metal flair. The vocals tread the line between black metal and screamo. But the guitars and whatnot are definite dream-pop/shoegaze. I think ultimately the lack of being able to lump Sunbather into a category led to a lot of critism but I think it's one of those that are just unable to be classified. Unless you wanna call it post-metal-shoe-scramz-dream-gaze. But I think what blows my mind most is that people call Alcest's Ecailles "blackgaze" and no one bats and eye, yet it only had really one heavy song. Sunbather had 4. And they were all heavier.

Not kvlt enough, jamming Leviathan's Tentacles of Whorror m/
I like this album quite a bit, but it's overall a bit disappointing. I think "From the Kettle Unto the Coil" could have been a good closer after "Gifts for the Earth", wish it was on the album.
