depends. if music was purely subjective, why should you even try to put any effort into it?

what?
well, you can either be absolute and claim that quality in music is entirely subjective, which leads to the immediate consequence that putting effort into it is pointless, because there is no measurement by which it's better than any random pop song. Or, you can believe in some kind of objective quality, in which case it doesn't make sense to make fun of/attack a comment that's saying that rating this album with 1 is stupid, like Igni did. everything else is promoting a double standard.

misho87 complained that someone gave this a 1
Ignimbrite said it's pointless to complain about someone else's rating, since there's no rule stating that you have to like the same album.
he never implied that music was 100% subjective. he implied it's possible for someone to dislike this album enough to give it 1/5.
"which leads to the immediate consequence that putting effort into it is pointless, because there is no measurement by which it's better than any random pop song"
- i mean, it's possible that people make music because they enjoy it, and aren't concerned with how their music measures up to 'random pop songs' (not even comparable to being with but ok)

you are wrong on both accounts
1) no objective measurement =! no measurement
2) existence of objective quality does not imply rating this album a 1 is stupid
god bless

>>> he never implied that music was 100% subjective. he implied it's possible for someone to dislike this album enough to give it 1/5.
sure it is, and it's possible for misho to think that this guy is wrong if he thinks it's bad. if you just rate stuff by how much you like it without any quality judgement, then you can of course do anything. but that's not the intention if you take the ratings literally.
>>> i mean, it's possible that people make music because they enjoy it
well I'd assume most people do. I wasn't saying that people wouldn't still make this kind of music (they would), so much as I was saying that in the absence of objectivity, they wouldn't really get anywhere. that's not relevant though, because there is objectivity, which means it's completely fine to be bothered by a 1 rating, which was my whole point. I don't like the "hurr durr everyone has his opinions; you aren't allowed to complain about other people's opinions" attitude, because it's such a cheap way of trying to appear reasonable.
but we probably shouldn't continue this discussion. it's a complex topic and this isn't the right place.

i was just confused by your wording earlier, more or less makes sense now. as you were

holy shit just stop dude

"hurr durr everyone has his opinions; you aren't allowed to complain about other people's opinions"
this is stupid in and of itself, entirely independent of your objectivity/subjectivity delusions

I've listened to it about four times through. None of the songs seem to have the staying power of songs like 'And Plague Flowers The Kaleidoscope,' but the album does certainly flow better. There are a few too many sections that sound like metalcore and melodic death metal though, which I'm indifferent towards. Album could be a grower.
