Shadows is definitely better than this, both are definitely top 5 Ulver with Nattens, Bergtatt, and Marriage.

The only Ulver stuff I'm not keen on is the black metal era, they've been pretty consistent since.

I got the impression that shadows does not vary much, being a bit boring in the end. This one instead has remarkable crescendos and ups and downs in the songs. I am leaning towards a 4.

I've heard a lot of bm but no other album is like Bergtatt, absolutely stunning.
Haven't heard as much ambient, if anyone knows of any that sounds like Shadows to rec me it'd be much appreciated. Or even better, knowledge of how they were inspired to write it and who influenced them. I know Coil was a big influence on them in writing this.
