I mean you clearly like this A LOT, so it makes sense you'd remember
tis quite possible I forgot this existed a couple of times (even tho I do recall enjoying it initially)
and yeah the best BM of the decade (10s) calls have me intrigued to see if I could get more out of this, because I was a little taken aback by how highly some of y'all rate it

Going through my 2010s bm ratings and yea there’s a lot I like more than this 😔
It’s a cool album tho

This album is an enormous grower, didn’t care for it too much when I first heard it, now I revisit it regularly and think it’s a really unique take on dissodeath/black

I agree with botb. This album really travels along its own tristed plane of existence, is highly original, forward thinking while still giving a clear nod to the roots of the genre and brilliantly executed by excellent musicians. The production is fantastic as well. Clear 5 imo.
Give it a run again demon. I know that thine standards are high, but you have refined tastes and I believe you might just see the sacred white light.

I am running through this again and yeah, I can definitely appreciate why this is well-liked. Interesting you mention those "nods to the roots", as they are perhaps marginally too prominent for me. Generally, I'm someone who gravitates towards acts which take more of their cues (not all) from outside of early BM, even if they're in-keeping with the general spirit of things in that regard
This still leans towards the dissonant, modern side of things too, but the fusion is very mindful of the genre's beginnings imo (not necessarily a bad thing)
tl;dr - idk it's definitely still a great album. I dig the atmos for sure. It may seem like I have not advanced this any but in spirit I have (current Demo 3.5s > old Demo 3.5s) and I'm not finished here yet

To me, the best combo for bm is when it innovates while paying homage to the roots. I think Deathspell do that even at their most obtuse, and obviously so do these guys. This was the first thing I heard from the band, like a lot of people, and I knew there was something special with the band immediately. Hope to witness a live show one day.

yeah, that's fair
guess I'm more inclined to appreciate a flava of bm, rather than something more grounded in that realm - even if it's a creative, disso-infused interpretation of the wider genre
been re-listening to that lauded Altar of Plagues album and theoretically, that would be something I could eventually envisage loving, rather than just "liking a lot" (just an example)
having said that, these things aren't linear / so easy to define in such terms and also, people change

Fair enough demon and I must say that I always appreciate hearing your point of view on art because you clearly care, is invested, smart and articulate. So cheers!
As for the Altar of Plagues album, that is probably top bm ever so if you're thinking of giving that one another spin I couldn't recommend it higher.
