This album is basically a love letter to John Zorn

"Trevor Dunn's old man voice on the secret track makes this album."
They wouldn't tell meeeeee, but somehow I found out!

A bit of a problem with the review - Although it demands to be listened to as a whole, that's a problem. There’s a hidden track on the original LP, eschewing standard sequencing, one track that’s only on the CD as a “secret track,” one track that was part of a 7" single with the LP release, and 2 tracks by a differently named band altogether, Secret Chiefs Trio, that made up the second side of the 7". The CD resolves some of this with its track listing, "hiding" the "Secret Song" at the end of track 4, putting in Platypus as the penultimate track. But the Secret Chiefs Trio tracks are only on the 7". Although the CD gives a possible listening order, it's kind of a modular album. Good luck figuring out the definitive track order.

I mean it came out in 1995 and by that time CDs were more widely used than records so idk seems fine

@krongey: pretty sure the review won't be edited, considering its writer hasn't been around since 2020

To me all of their albums are a solid 4.5 (with the exception of the new one, which I really don't count as a proper studio album), but the S/T would be their worst 4.5 imo

I think everything finally clicked for me on this.
You know you've lost your mind when everything on this makes sense to you.
