hm realistically it's probably like a 4.5 but also that album completely changed the way i saw the world

if you actually think it's average im convinced you listened to it like 4 times back when it was released and figured it was shitty cause it doesn't have songs like julie and candy or an eagle in your mind though

it's like the antithesis of a "song" album which doesn't really apply to anything else they've released. a lot of the individual tracks are mediocre but when put in context of the rest of the album and experienced as one continuous journey they're incredibly genius and moving

i mean yeah maybe for you its like the pinnacle of existence and you envision yourself soaring through the night sky shirtless on the hood of a rusty sunfire to it but trying to rationalize to yourself the fact that there are plenty people out there that were disappointed by it by saying anyone who thinks its pretty average (in consideration of the rest of their discog) only "listened to it like 4 times back when it was released and figured it was shitty cause it doesn't have songs like julie and candy or an eagle in your mind though" is the most bewilderingly dumb thing i've ever seen you say

i mean i can assure you i haven't played grooves into my copy considering i'd rather listen to any other BoC album any day any time no questions asked but I can also say with a certain level of assuredness that when one of my favourite artists releases a disappointing album i've spent a lot more time than i would like to acknowledge trying to find a way to enjoy it more

the same can be said of new radiohead, you come back to it like a week later over and over hoping it will sink in and grow with that one more listen and it never does

nah obviously there's a lot of people that think it's average that don't think that but a pretty significant chunk of the people ive run into that think it's average seem to think like that

cyg also has a point there really isnt anything wrong with listening 4 times and realizing its sub-par since it doesnt have a single song that lives up to the standard of gratification BoC is known for.

I personally think TH is great, but their first 3 are absolutely essential IDM albums in my eyes and it doesn't really quite make it to that plateau

that wasn't really targeted at you or anyone in particular, it's very clear to me from other discussions that you've actually given it more of a chance at least, but ive ran into soooo many people that are so quick to dismiss it just cause they tried something different

"what is wrong with doing exactly this tho?"

cause they were trying to create something very different from mhtrtc and geo and quickly dismissing it cause it doesn't try to accomplish what those albums do is kind of ridiculous

???

also if u guys don't think jacquard causeway or nothing is real or semena mertvykh or split your infinities lives up to the rest of their classic tracks u crazy
