It would be better if everything was a tad more hearable in the first part. I understand your not supposed to realize everything

that's going on because it makes it more overwhelming and trippy but I guess it still could've been a little clearer and still had

that feel

I don't hear anything wrong with Thief. I think there are quite a few parts scattered throughout this album that seem muddled with sound though, but I think it's due to the production. If they had gotten a budget form a big label, the production could have been clearer, but possibly too polished. I think it works.
