Gave it a couple of listens, and it's average at best.

Never before in one album have I been so put off by the sheer amount of borrowed riffs and vocal melodies from the past.

Homages/little nods are great when done in a way that keeps a band's sound in tact whilst paying tribute to their influences. City Of Evil showed that Avenged Sevenfold can make vibrant, tight songs which harken back to a more traditional era whilst keeping their own identity.

There's a song which has an almost identical riff to 'The House That Jack Built' by Metallica on this album.

When a band starts ripping off 'LOAD', you know they're out of fresh ideas.

(Side note- I actually quite like 'Load', but this is a load of bland shite)

Yeah, I guess that rings true with a lot of bands these days.

They start out hungry for success, and have that energetic passion which just doesn't seem to stick around past their second or third release.

There are of course bands which improve consistently, have a dud, then resume business as usual. This band has now had a few duds, and the only album I truly enjoy from start to finish is Waking The Fallen.

I know, I know- "They'll never put an album out like that again so just go listen to that" etc etc. Just a shame innit.

"Actually I had something productive to do other than sit at a computer, play soccer."

Yeah, I was being productive by trading a hobby for a different hobby for a couple of hours.

"Coming Home" is pretty cool, minus the lyrics. I feel like it's the only track here that actually hits what they were aiming for.

We should totally direct our comments to better music threads like Porcupine Tree, Opeth, or Death.

It's not IM's "Coming Home," though it's a blatant attempt at mimicking Iron Maiden in general. Even

moreso than they usually do. Actually, that's probably the only reason it's any good...

Last I heard, they played quite a bit from City of Evil and Waking the Fallen. The rest is just all over the place.

You shouldn't be super upset by the live A7X show. For the most part, everything should be pretty okay. Even Arin can do most of what The Rev was able to do minus 5-7 songs.

Because the rest of the band decided to be dictators and told him to pull a Lars Ulrich on Load.

So its a dictatorship. Is it worse than John Petrucci's rule over Dream Theater?
