I'm not saying the whole arc was particularly strong but that scene was pretty powerful imo

@mongi, nah man i agree with you, largely because the music was really great. 'peace' is a lovely track for sure.
@xar, agreed on zutara. maybe grampa zuko and grandma katara, lol jk.
***THE SEARCH SPOILERS***
@Talons, you can read the avatar wikia on The Search, but basically yeah she started a new family with her old lover and asked Koh's mother or something to grant her a new face, but that meant her memory was wiped too. Eventually Zuko finds them and realizes who Ursa is. Eventually she remembered and opted to get her memory and face back (apologizing to Azula and Zuko). She did have another family with Ikem. Azula ran off

Does Zuko just leave afterwards or does she come back to the fire nation?

It's not really stated in The Search. I'd imagine she has an open invitation to live in the Royal Palace, or at least in the capital somewhere. Whether or not she takes that opportunity would be a different question entirely

I need to read these comics if they go into this much detail about all their lives after the TV series ended.

they're also online but i mean yeah if you wanna support the franchise lol
idk i think they're significantly lower quality, even if they do have some interesting stuff. i really would prefer an animated feature film for each trilogy, it won't happen obviously but still

Same man. Just a week away!
Also, I'm beginning to agree that season 2 is the worst season of Avatar in general. Mostly because of Udalaq. He's just evil for the sake of being evil. He has really nothing to gain by releasing Vaatu lol he's dumb.

I think Unalaq's story is like this:
He was a Red Lotus member, so he believed in freeing Vaatu to bring balance (by opening the portals). He was really spiritual, and believed in the Red Lotus's goal of destroying the division of people. Probably at some point he was disillusioned that his unspiritual brother became the Avatar, so he figured there's something fundamentally corrupt/wrong about the Avatar. In his spirit world journeys, he probably met with Vaatu at some point. Vaatu knew he had no hope beating the Avatar at Harmonic Convergence since Wan smashed him, so he figures it'd be best that they combine into a "dark Avatar" to reign in an era of spirits and basically revert society to where it was before.
Remember, Jinora even says "Why would you want to destroy the world?" or whatever, and Unalaq says something like "Don't believe everything you've read" at the spirit library. If Vaatu took over, I don't think humans would be wiped out, but his chaotic influence would destroy human civilization as it were, pretty much rendering a new stone age type of a thing (which is more in tune with nature, so presumably spirits, dark or not, would stop attacking humans).
But yes, they definitely portrayed him as an Ozai-type villain with little nuance. He's definitely a weak villain; that, the useless Republic City arc, and Korra's annoying regression in the first half bump it down as a season quite a bit. Still not as low as Season 1 though

his unspiritual brother's daughter* became the Avatar

Fire was the best Avatar season. It had all of the best episodes.
Fire > Water > Earth > Change > Air > Spirits
In my opinion^

Well, I think Ozai was really flushed out. He was easily influenced by his forefathers and he craved power and firmly believed
that the Fire Nation was meant to lead the world and this required aggressive expression from his point of view. With Unalaq,
we barely get any background with him, not only thew world will be destroyed in the process, but also himself. Would Unalaq
really think that when he released Vaatu he would actually still use a tiny weakling human? He's just blinded by his beliefs that
he never saw the big picture. So underdeveloped imo.
Also: Fire>Change>Earth>Water>Air>Spirits.
