nah i mean like sure he's genuine sure but sometimes his writing sounds like he's lifting hackneyed lines from random places like on malt memories where he talks about what our lives are built upon or on dont fuck with our dreams where he talks about what the "king" said or drivin around singin songs about singin songs or on calgary girls with that turn around so i can fuckin kiss u line

like fair enuf when hes overly sentimental but NOT sayin cliched lines / sayin somethin in a pretty original way which is most of the time and i'll definitely let him go when he "risks it" / has a near miss but like that malt memories line for example almost ruins the song for me, esp when its preceded by some fuckin top notch beautiful shit. same with dont fuck with my dreams; those lines i mentioned r kinda lame but when he says the phone call line i fuckin melt

im talkin purely in terms of the language he uses, not in terms of his genuineness or ingenuity or whatever the fuckin word is. like i have no doubt he genuinely feels what hes sayin but i also have no doubt james alex felt young and drunk and alive on any one of the fifty million separate instances he wrote those words in his lyrics but its still like cmon man r u the fuckin cheeto cheetah from the cheetos bag cuz u r fuckin turnin up the cheese to extreme cheese brah
