Dear god, not another BGWTB argument with Dominion. We've had like, 3 or 4 this week.
I thought the official story on Mustaine was that he was also booted for being drunk all the time. But he's also a vindictive bastard in general so he'd have probably been a hater even if he left by his own accord.

Sorry to go backwards, but it needs to be said.
Corgan is probably a better guitarist than anyone else from the grunge era, since he's actually a virtuoso on the level of Vai or Townsend. He's just so passionate about his art form that he doesn'tnuse his skills to show off the same way.
That said, I'm not a big of SP, but i do have mad respect for them and Billy.

Woah, woah, WOAH! Townsend is NOT a virtuoso. And neither is Corgan. Extremely good guitarists, yes. But not virtuosos, and definitely not on Vai's level.
That being said, Cantrell recorded an album (of covers) as Ozzy's axe-man, and Ozzy doesn't just pick anyone to play guitar for him. So don't hate on Cantrell's skills.

They said they booted Dave because of his drinking, but that's not exactly true. And it's not like they were just gonna come
out and give the real reason why they booted him. How would it have looked if they told everyone they needed a lead guitarist
who knew his place, and was willing to take a backseat to James and Lars?

Dave got kicked out because he wasn't a pushover pussy and he was a way better musician.

Not hating on Cantrell, and for sure Vai is a cut above Corgan and Townsend, I just wanted to drop his name as a guideline. Billy can SHRED, plus DT was trained by Steve Vai and also doesn't bust out his chops in favour of crafting songs and albums.

There's millions of people in the world who can shred....who cares. And Since you basically imply that Steve Vai can't construct quality songs and albums then you clearly haven't listened to his early stuff. And yes, Corgan is a pretty good guitarist.

I wasn't trying to imply that SV can't write songs!

I agree lots of ppl can rip up the guitar, the only reason I brought it up is cause ppl were saying Corgan was a weaker guitarist than other grunge players, which not : p

Corgan possesses more skill than the others no doubt. I'd still take Jerry as the best overall guitarist from his era though (in terms of creativity, style & songwriting).
