I would normally much prefer Mikael's voice to Steven's, but this album actually has some of Steven's best singing.

Again, the title track I think is his finest vocal performance. And as much as I love Mikael's voice, I cant imagine the song having the same 'morning mist-calm' that Steven brings to it.

Agreed 100%.

This whole album shows a different (and much better) side to Wilson than most of his discog, not only does it have by far his best vocal performance but it also shows him at his most creative (although I'm not sure how much of that came from Akerfeldt). This is undoubtedly one of the best things he's done in my mind.

Best thing Wilson or Mikael have done in 5+ years. Though Raven and Heritage come pretty close

Raven doesn't come close for me but I'd say Heritage is about on the same level as this.

Ehh Heritage doesn't consistently blow my mind like this does, even if some parts sound similar, like the drum solo and weird heavy part. I'm also a sucker for weird ethereal dreamy music which is probably why I prefer this

Well this is basically a different Wilson to the one who fronts Porcupine Tree and releases boring solo albums. He actually sounds quite inspired here.

Underflow prefers Wilson and Akerfeldt's inferior albums, don't mind him.

It's funny because I used Sputnik vernacular to agree with him while also mirroring the rating, creating a double meaning.

Akerfeldt is definitely more creative and original, a lot of Wilson just sounds like regurgitating existing 70's prog, which that youtube vid confirmed, but he regurgitates it well and he's a great songwriter

Wilson >> Akerfeldt

Akerfeldt's brilliant, and I was in love with him when I first discovered Opeth. But you haven't heard

No-Man or Bass Communion, or any of Wilson's other side projects. As a songwriter Wilson's way more

diverse and experiments very well

But of course JT was bashing Wilson before it was popular ;D

And I thought you liked their early albums?
