This album took its time (aprox 2 months) to grow on me. I hated it. Now that I finally "get it" I really like it. It's very mind-numbing and tranquilizing, but also entertaining and technical. Very unique songwriting, where songs constantly shift mood and intensity, while still flowing seamlessly.

Noctourniquet is incredible and is their best work since De-Loused in the Comatorium. Period. Brilliant album.

i don't know if i wanna listen to this. I'll probably be expecting another Frances The Mute or something like that and feel really down when I realize it's probably nothing like that.

A decent review though I disagree with the bit about Lapotchka being boring. It's one of my favorite tracks. I love the drumming/Vocals toward the end. "Poor use of electronics" is a very subjective statement that betrays a vast ignorance of the band and music in general. You can say you don't like it, but beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Also, no mention at all of the new drummer. Mr. Parks' contribution is too stellar to leave out IMO. I also think the album is quite divergent from the themes and ideas on Octahedron... so.... i guess.... I don't actually like the review very much...

These are the 5 best songs. This album is brilliant. This is their best album since De-Loused and if you don't think so, you are a 3rd degree gnome who still sips 7-Up under an August moon with only a Pez dispenser and a Venus fly trap in your pocket

While I respect that they like to experiment and do whatever they want, I really wish they would just concentrate on making an album as great as De-loused or Frances the Mute again.

I don't really know if I should check this out and be heartbroken or not check it out and miss out on some good Mars Volta.
