This whole thing is pretty damn sweet and he's basically mastered the way he'll remove elements from his tracks until it's stripped down to something really simple like a vocal sample and then bring it all back in so perfectly or transition to something else. I don't see how this would change your opinion on Untrue or make you think less of it or anything. It's a really great release but Untrue works as an album in a way that this doesn't (and isn't supposed to). They're pretty different in styles IMO to the point where the opinion of one doesn't have to change the other at all, despite them both carrying that Burial aesthetic.
Loner is the only thing keeping this at a 4.5 for me. Not because it's bad. It's awesome. The other two tracks are breathtaking though, and Loner sounds a bit more like a track anyone could produce. It definitely doesn't have his signature sound as prevalently as the other two, but that's not really my complaint. It just doesn't seem to have that same awareness of space and feeling that his other stuff does. Cool to see him experiment with a track like that though.

I love the vibe on Loner though.. it feels spacey and somehow claustrophobic at the same time.

Burial: "That’s happened to a lot of music. It's detailed in a boring way. I’m not into big intros, because if you’ve got a big intro, the rest of the tune is forever the rest of the tune, and the intro’s forever the intro. You can never get lost in it, you know where you are in most tunes, and that just takes away the only reason a tune should exist to me, I can't relate to grey music. I like tunes that just dive straight in, there’s a jump off and once you’re in it, the awareness that you’re two minutes into a tune, or four minutes into a tune is gone. That’s how I like my tunes. Or something like Robert Hood, just pure presence, shark-like, elements woven together. You can sense them sitting there rolling out the tune."
interesting to see he's changed his mind on this

If we don't get a LP from this guy by the end of the year I'm going to be very upset

My expectations for this have matched and one-uped. It's like he took my favourite moments from untrue and refined them- The gorgeous ending of Loner reminds me of what he did with Shell of Light, and 'Ashtray Wasp' sounds like an expansion on the blueprint of 'Ghost Hardware'.
Anyway, i am one deeply impressed scalliwag
