I look at this album as a whole unit, and that's exactly why I think the emotional part of it is partially flawed. Instead of a musical trip full of different emotions and feelings, all I hear is the same exact emotion. I know this doesn't necessarily mean that it's a bad thing to convey the same emotion, it's just that I don't comPletely agree with it. This is just my opinion, and, for the record, I don't think this is a bad album at all.

And by the way, there are many ways to express happiness other than shitty pop songs.

That's obvious but I don't get the criticism.

It's like saying, I dislike 'In Absentia' because the album art is purple (no clue what actual color it is). Like opinion or not, that's pretty stupid.

I don't get the premise of your argument. So what if it isn't a musical trip full of different emotions and feelings? Are you gonna automatically knock off every single album that doesn't have a wide range of emotions?

In fact, is a wide range of emotions a prerequisite for a good album, or are certain emotions what you go to in albums?

I mean, you can find numerous faults in a given pop album, but are you going to criticize 'Thriller' because, "Well, there's no track that genuinely makes me feel sad"?

Not at all. But when an emotion is as strong as sadness and anger, too much of it can be tiring. Adding some happiness or

melancholy can make the sadness of the album kind of bittersweet, which I think is more effective and relatable.

What do you think the emotion here is.... anger?

I think disgust (Handcuffs), despair (Jesus), self-directed anger (most of the songs), anger at others

(Sowing Season), guilt (Limousine) are all present

I wouldn't say it's homogeneous at all.

Ok, I agree. But then again, they're all extremely negative emotions, so maybe if they added some positive emotions in a subtle way it would be more convincing.

I thought it was meh, listened to Deja, thought that was awesome, and got used to Brand New's style. Then I re-listened to this (maybe my 5th time) and was blown away

Don't want to be another teenage girl harping on about Jesse Lacey, but that dude's got soul.
