"for the most part they're nonsensical"

the lyrics aren't nonsensical, they're just not written in a straightforward narrative form like a lot of song lyrics. i like the lyrics on this album because they're very open to interpretation and i'm able to attach my own meaning to them rather than being forced to feel what the writer was feeling. but i get that some people don't dig those kind of lyrics.

i read an interview with paul awhile ago somewhere and i don't remember the exact way he said it but

basically it sounds like the lyrics on this album (and on others but to a far lesser extent) were

more

intended to convey a feeling than necessarily be about anything specific. he's a fan of classic

authors and poets and he said some of the lines are purposefully confusing because he was interested

in deconstructing language or something. it was all pretty pretentious and confusing with the way he

described it but i get where he is coming from and i tend to prefer lyrics that are more about

conveying the writers emotions than describing a specific event that you may or may not be able to

relate to. as for this bands discography, it is kind of sad how they went downhill after this.

although i like all of their albums and think that even the worst ones are 3.5-4s, i feel like they

could have done more with their potential. antics was great even it it wasn't quite the masterpiece

this is, but the other two, while great albums on their own, really pale in comparison.
