Hell no. Hypnotize is better. The song in Hypnotize are of better quality and just flow much better together. It doesn't matter if Mezmerize was more progressive or whatever, it doesn't make the songs better.

No it's not. Mezmerize had alot more very high quality tracks. This has Tentitive, Kill Rock N' Roll, Holy Mountians, U-Fig and Hypnotize. Mezmerize had BYOB, Cigaro, Radio/Video, Question, Violent Pornograpy, Sad Statue, Old School Hollywood, and the best SOAD song to date, Lost In Hollywood.
I'm not usually one for mainstream rock, but this record (and this band's first S/T one) are really good for the genre they've been thrown into. Good review, too.
Mezmerize had some good songs, but not nearly enough for it to be a good record. I wouldn't call this mainstream rock, and I disagree. This Message Edited On 07.31.07

even though this is their most average release, it's still an indication of their good song-writing capabilities, daron's in particular.
i should get back into these guys.

I dont care if ppl like system of a down but all I can ask is why? Why do you like them all they do is say random words really fast in all of there songs.

Serj's singing style actually REQUIRES talent; but a better question is, why did you waste your time to come on here and show how much of an *** you are?

Sorry dude that was my friend. (he's a dumb ass)
But he does have a unique voice I'll give him that but personally I think there's alot better bands out there than system of a down. Bands that are alot more creative too. But that's just me speaking.

Right, it was your friend. Do you have multiple personality disorder? Because I'm not believing you otherwise.
More creative than SOAD.... It's my personal belief that if you can't define a genre for a band, they have to be pretty creative to pull that off.
SOAD is one such band.

rofl, was your friend's name Alfred?

Believe what you want but honestly that was my friend who typed that. I'm not THAT ignorant. (And yeah I know you're still not going to believe but I could hardly care less considering the fact that I don't know you so it doesn't matter to me whether you believe me or not)
idk I think Between The Buried And Me is unique. And I'll agree with you that there isn't really anyone who sounds like System of A Down. Idk maybe it's the somewhat spastic singing that throws me off. I own Toxcity, Mexmerize and Hypnotize but I never really enjoyedl listening to them. Like I can't sit down and listen to SOAD for an hour straight, in MY opinion there are better bands out there. But I don't think SOAD sucks or anything but for me personally there are better bands out there. What do you think is the most unique band out there?
|
| |
There's more than just one unique band, if I had to make you a list it'd be pretty long.
System of a Down's self titled is very original. I don't care as much for any of the other albums, however Toxicity was pretty good. I don't like Hypnotize or Mesmerize.

I completely agree with you, reznor. Toxicity was great, but Hypnotize and Mesmerize are boring
|
| |
Exactly. They lost that quirky touch they had. Songs like Suite Pee, Suggestions, P.L.U.C.K, Mind, basically the entire self-titled was amazing. Toxicity had a more refined sound to it, but it still was interesting, albeit a bit more commercial. Hyp/Mes sounds like it was MADE for radio. And the song-writing really went out the window. Songs like Violent Pornography are just an incredible waste of time.

| |
I haven't heard much of their self titled album. what would you rate that album? Not on how unique it is, just in general.
|
| |
My ratings from my profile on sputnik, in order of release.
System of a Down: 4.5
Toxicity: 4
Steal This Album: 3
Mesmerize: 2
Hypnotize: 2.5
Hopefully that gives you an idea relative to the entire discography. But yeah, definitely get the self/titled, it's System's best work, imo.

So true, I know everyone loves this and Mezmorize... but they just went downhill, much like Linkin Park.
I would honestly rate this a 2.5. It's not amazingly bad, but it is pretty boring and annoying. Reznors ratings are pretty accurate to how mine would be. This Message Edited On 12.04.07

Agreed. The two songs that put Hypnotize above Mesmerize are Lonely Day and Viscinity of Obscenity.
Lonely Day just has a delightful melody, and Viscinity of Obscenity is nuts, reminds me very much of the self/titled.

Agreed for Viscinity of Obscenity. However, if I hear Lonely Day one more time I may just kill something. It really wasn't that great to begin with.

It's a fun tune to play on the guitar, easy to sing along etc.

Yeah... but don't you find it boring and very repetitive?
