DurzoBlint, what makes this album so special? It sounds pretty by the numbers for it's genre. That's not saying it's bad, just not five worthy.

Well for me everything comes together so well and every instrument helps tell the story. I am always a sucker for depressing story's and in particular evil characters, so subjects like rape and murder are my favorites. I also love the vocals, including the cleans, they click with me as well. The only problems I could find with it was that by now you can predict when the false build ups were going to occur, but that for me wasn't a problem as that surprise goes after 1 listen anyway.

When you put this with the fact I have played the album 22 times on Itunes already, its clear my brain loves it. So to me it is one of my favorite albums.

I just hope defeaters next album (if there is one) will be on a new story or subject, because even to me another album on the same family would be too much.

Guitarist is just spectacular. Vocals are great as well. Will probably bump this to a 4.5.

I really think that this band needs a stylistic change. You can only write so many melodic hardcore albums that tell stories of one mans depressing journey through life. I'm not saying that they need to change drastically, they just need to write about new subject matter and branch out a little musically while keeping the same emotion and intensity that we all love. I listened to this a few times and liked it but it has quickly worn off because I feel like I've heard it before.

I also think the acoustic side is flawless too but I understand why some people think its weak. But Breathing doesn't get enough love, if I had to pick the weakest of the four would be Headstone.

"Butt Breathing" is the worst track on the album.
