I'll never see what all of you see in this band.

Monstrously noisy production, sharp guitar tones, impeccable rhythms, vocals like fire, passionate lyrics, and engaging songwriting.

"Monstrously noisy production" - Not appealing to me, and unsure why it would be appealing to anyone.

"sharp guitar tones" - Yeah they sound all right.

"impeccable rhythms" - Whether you're looking at groove, aggression, or technicality in the riffs/rhythms, there are plenty of bands out there who are more impressive in any of these aspects.

"vocals like fire" - I can't stand Josh on anything other than Bless the Martyr, Kiss the Child.

"passionate lyrics" - I care as much about metalcore lyrics as I do about what Donald Trump ate for breakfast today.

"engaging songwriting." - Too technical to be accessible, yet not technical enough to be impressive.

I'm not calling the band bad, outright; but they don't do anything for me personally. The traits of this band people seem to like aren't impressive to me.

Edit: Just realized that I used the word "impressive" three times in this post. Ew.

I didn't know metalcore lyrics was a thing

GetLow Noisy and abrasive music is heavily cathartic, that’s where the enjoyment comes from. Same reason people like the way Jane Doe sounds.

And yea, The Chariot isn’t the most technical of bands but their songs are structured in an engaging way. At least to most people that enjoy the band. Also what bands would you say do those things that I mentioned better?

As for lyrics, your loss I guess. Not all metalcore lyrics are created equal and Josh has always been a great writer

Well I'm a Jane Doe hater, so

To answer your question, Norma Jean, Ion Dissonance, Dillinger, Botch, Converge, etc all do one or more of those aspects better.

Well see I like all of those bands too, some of them more than The Chariot. But The Chariot has always just been a super solid mathcore band known for their heavily chaotic sound and intense live performances, if you don’t dig you just don’t dig I guess.

I don’t really see the difference between like The Chariot and liking Bless the Martyr though

Agreed with GetLow, never been able to get into this band. I don’t see what everyone else sees in these guys

On Bless the Martyr, Josh isn't going out of his way to be the star of the show, which after listening to this album today, definitely seemed like the case here. Musically, Bless the Martyr has more interesting riffs than this, AND THEM BREAKDOWNS.

Well his lyrics are a pretty big part of the music so his voice is a bit more prominent and audible. But he shouts them with such conviction that I can’t help but love it. And man I can’t believe you’re not even hearing the sick riffs here dude

Do you like the first one? I feel like it’s the closest thing to a Bless the Martyr 2

not sure how he's going out of his way to be the "star of the show" here, this album is a well oiled machine with everyone bringing it equally, it all fits together stellar on this album

I have not listened to their first album. I will check it out eventually.

@Calmrose It just seems to me like he's pushing himself too hard to be in the foreground of the music. It comes off as obnoxious in some parts. I don't know how else to describe it.

GetLow what do you like in metalcore cause from an outside perspective your taste seems very inconsistent lol

EDIT that sounds kinda mean I’m sorry, I’m just having a hard time pinning down what exactly you like and dislike in the genre

That's a very hard question to answer, because I like different bands from all eras of metalcore for different reasons. I like the older, chaotic stuff as long as there's some semblance of accessibility to it. The screaming vocals have to be tolerable, and not obnoxious (unlike that absolutely miserable Jane Doe edgy screeching bullshit). If there is clean singing, the singing better be good, and the hooks better be GOOD. I like good riffs (subjective, I know), and breakdowns that have massive buildups. I also like shit that grooves.

It's all good man, I know you weren't trying to be mean lol

It's not even Converge, it's just that album. I dig You Fail Me and Axe to Fall. I'm afraid to listen to anything before Jane Doe.

That's fine and all, but the vocals. It's just the vocals.
