Gave it another listen this morning and I'm considering lowering this to a 2.5. It just struck me how much this is a product of its time, the fast singing and staccato riffs give this a nu-metal sheen which just doesn't work for me. So glad they almost immediately went into a new direction after this. Seems fairly evident this one was a collection of songs they'd written for many years prior.

Nu-metal the best genre agreed
Seriously though, to each their own but I love this vibe. The evolution into the sound of the next album is interesting - I'll say that C.O.T.E. could easily fit on Sound Awake and vice versa, All I Know wouldn't feel out of place here.
