Dealing with midlife crises and high blood pressure. Just a wee lad, miss those days.

my mom didn't let me listen to this. I was in 4th grade when I asked for it (3rd when it came out). as a parent would you let your 4th grader jam this?

No way. I don't want them ever learning emotions such as anger.

I always lol at the movies they let me watch (my dad took us to the premier of spawn in 1997!) but any music that wasn't pop, nooooooo way

My parents had it easy in that I didn't even listen to new music as a child. As a kid kid I mostly listened to whatever my parents wanted me to, mostly classic rock and old stuff like the beach boys or simon & garfunkel

since I didn't speak English my parents were like "you like this? yeah sure you can buy it!" and only realized the lyrical content way too late lol

cds and cd players were huge in elementary and kids demanded them. naturally I wanted one as well. though it simply wasn't happening as my mom hated so much of what we wanted to hear and thought it would turn us into junkies. thank god for the film walk the line as it reinvigorated her interest in Johnny cash. she bought us a ton of his cds. ill never forget hearing him for the first time. those cds lasted me until middle school it was there I finally borrowed cd players and went on "play dates" to warped tour and such. by high school I was a scene kid until 11th grade where I discovered sputnikmusic and helped bolster the number of reported posts by 100%!

Haha
I mean I get not wanting your 4th grader listening to extremely depraved music, but Sum 41 and Papa Roach are pretty inoffensive
Honestly the whole "pop music only" thing is pretty ironic because often they feature the most obvious and overt sexual references, et al.
|
| |
the first cd I remember my mom playing for us ad nauseam was the Charlie's Angels soundtrack (2000). talk about inappropriate.
|
| |
“Papa roach are pretty offensive” idk they kinda made it a point to curse every third word and topics about suicide, addiction, depression. I can see my parents not wanting me to listen to them in middle school. Although I don’t think I’d really care as a parent
|
| |
Yeah Papa Roach is where my parents started caring too. "Last Resort" is about as far from inoffensive as a single of its size can get...

I guess I never really paid that much attention to their lyrics. I always thought of them as radio-friendly lol.

who are you and what did you do to Sowing???
|

After their first release they were very radio friendly, but their breakout song off the debut was last resort so you can imagine how the rest of the album was
