i think it is also quite easily swan at his best.
I like his interplay with the other members on Happiness a bit more I think. Or maybe just the interplay in general. Like this is the peak for the individual members but I thought that on happiness everyone sounded like they were playing off of each other really well (though Mess and Craig are obviously great together on a lot of stuff here).

happiness just doesn't have the same kind of vibe as this, and i think the guitar playing is largely responsible for that. happiness has cool parts too, especially with the bass/guitar stuff, but it leans more heavily on quick little licks and i think it has fewer "holy shit" cool riffs (backwards pumpkin, open your eyes, etc.) and is generally sunnier. this is more moody and cooler.

yeah I agree, happiness is a much lighter listen for me (not that this is a "heavy" listen itself), but I dig that they're different styles.

I didn't really listen to DBM2 much at all. I thought it was pretty lame that they dropped Kurt for Craig - it kind of killed the evolution the band was having. But I just didn't find anything off DBM2 near as memorable as this. I'd probably like it if I gave it more time but I just don't feel motivated to do so.
