This album feels like a lot of concepts that weren't pushed far enough and songs that seemed like they would have worked far better if they were 10-20 beats faster. I think the band is trying to squeeze itself into a round hole while it's an octagon, it might fit eventually but it's still gonna look awkward.

you know I have to agree that I feel like there was something missing.
To me, this band is turning into a "bridge/outro" band (if there is such a thing). What I mean is, if you listen to most of Beggars, the strongest parts are in the last 30 seconds of the songs. Circles, Wood & Wire, Talking through glass, hell pretty much the whole album. I think it's powerful, but at the same time, it becomes too predictable. Anyone share my thoughts?

Circles is a good example I think. I feel like that song has so much potential and would have been a chilling song if they had upped the ante more in the last outro but they just kind of cut it off and I'm left wondering if that's it?

Weird I'm listening to Circles right now. But yes I agree, there's a mark that I personally feel like they miss on some songs, including circles. Still all complaints aside. This album really grows on the listener and has me begging for more all the time. no pun intended. Its a strength and a flaw. I found myself yearning for the next album, which hopefully they'll have a chance to get even more comfortable with translating their musical inclinations.
Still waiting for their magnum opus. though something tells me that Vheissu is a looming wall standing in their way. (much much respect towards that album)

But it's
argh I kinda agree, but for me it just makes it better.
It's like, the tension in this album is SO HIGH and there's no resolution until the last track. I fucking love this record.

hahaha I feel you on the tension points. fuck, Ive loved all their albums since Crisis.
Perhaps I've just been too attracted to the Epic scale that they produced in Vheissu and the resolve in each song.
I love this album, but I feel that their best is yet to come.

They are capable of something epic. hopefully the next release will be the big shibang
Unfortunately I've been saying that to myself since Vheissu :/.

well regardless of this, the fact that I'm always excited with their music speaks to me a lot, because I normally drop bands like flies... I'm a picky listener

there isnt anything missing to this record. its solid as is. the major difference here is that it doesnt really hold that "epic" quality like it did on Vheissu or even TAI. It's a laid back album that builds on quiet intensity. Though the title track finishes the album quite wonderfully.

who cares what you think?
There are definitely artists that don't try... to give you something.
You can hardly say that Thrice is not a band that tries. They have also said before that they don't want to re-create the same album over and over which would explain why they keep moving on with their lives.
